Who owned Alexander sports on Wilbraham/Wilmslow Rd? I'd imagine it's one of the Alexander family who were closely associated with City since, forever. However, I've never known for sure, could one of my kind fellow blues clear it up for me please?

Cheers.

Amazing job back in the day, always get the Umbro kits in there and superb for all things cricket in the summer months.

Remember it actually being a day out with mates back in the late 70s/early 80s, not that I had the money to buy anything unfortunately, would just go along with them and watch them buy the latest gear, wasn’t envious at all 0:-) !

It was owned by Eric Alexander and he bought it off Roy Clarke. It had been a combined sports and grocery shop - yeah, I know it’s an odd combination!- when Roy and Kath Clarke owned it. I interviewed Eric and Kath about their times owning the shop in the past.

Eric owned it for most of the 70s. His dad Albert had died 1971 (from memory).

I remember Roy Clarke's sports shop originally being on the corner of Dickenson Road, opposite the Birch Villa. Think he moved in the late 60's to the one on the corner of Wilbraham Road.

The Sports Depot on Princess road!
The hours my childish nose spent pressed up against the window looking at the arrays of toy soldiers assembled, or the latest Dinkys displayed. Then later it was Airfix kits. There was also a model shop on Claremont road that sold esoteric Aurora and Revell model kits, way out of my price bracket.
