One wonders what effect Johnson’s association with the pandemic and, subsequently, ‘partygate’ will have on his appeal with the electorate. The entire period is not one that kindles fond memories, unless you were a major shareholder in a pharmaceutical company, and the more removed society becomes from it, the less likely people will want to be reminded of it. His appeal will remain strong with his core, but it might be hard for him to reinvent himself to attract the middle ground.

We are exactly the same as the USA and probably every country in that a sizeable minority of the electorate are fucking morons. In the past it wasn't such a big deal because most of them wouldn't bother voting but in the era of social media, fake news and culture wars, unscrupulous people have managed to find a way of mobilising the moron vote and as a result we've had Johnson, and the US have had Trump.

Weak opposition might be true but when overseas resident newspaper owners and Tory appointed BBC people are having huge influence, it’s almost impossible for an opposition. Keith will be getting his treatment in the next 6 months.
