After his fucking ludicrous outburst regarding the Israel-Palestine conflict, I need to ask what this fat, unfunny scouser actually does?

He wasn't funny in the 80's. He was just a fat, unfunny scouser. In a shiny suit. On my TV. He stuck out like a sore thumb in the Young Ones.

I remember he was heralded as some sort of socialist freedom fighter, taking on the establishment with his acerbic wit. Or something.

Then that fucking single "Hello John Got A New Motor".

Has he EVER been funny? Has he actually contributed anything, ever to the rich tapestry of British comedy? Did he just get air time cos he was "zany" and expressed far-left political views?

In short, what was the point of Alexei Sayle?

How so?

How can you see him that way, when all I saw was a shouty, scouse dickhead in a shiny suit and pork pie hat?

What did I miss?

'Good' as in made me laugh

'Different' as in one of the first alternative comedians

'Original' as in his style of delivery was his own and years ahead of the likes of Ben Elton

Are you personally attacking someone for having a polar opposite opinion to you. From your opening sentence I'm guessing your pro Israel. Because he's given a view attacking their military action it's ok to have a go at him?

No, no, no. You need only put your head round the door of the Palestinian Boy Murdered thread to see that I am very much against Israeli politics and policies. Mr Sayle has waded into the debate though, calling Israel "the Jimmy Savile of nations". And it just got me thinking about him and how I have never ever found him amusing. And for an alleged comedian, that's kind of important.

What better way for a has-been lefty comedian to resurrect his career than to engage in a bit of trendy Israel bashing?

I'm not sure 'trendy' is quite the adjective I would use to describe the majority of the planet condemning atrocities.

Never thought him funny, when he appeared on the Young Ones I thought he was the worst bit, never got his humour.

Oh look - it's this topic again.
'I don't find this comedian funny, so how on earth can anyone else?'
'Ooh, you're so right - I just hate him for being left wing, but I'll jump on the bandwagon and claim he's unfunny too, unlike those sideplitting Tory comedians such as Jim Davidson - now there's a funny bloke'.
'So he's a lefty and unfunny, and a scouser - let's just burn him'.
'And he doesn't like Israel killing kids, and has the audacity to say so - what gives him the right?'
Blah blah blah...
