Who do you suggest that's homegrown?

CFA?

UK?

You can't tell me the People at City drawing up a centre half list have gone all the way down it and stopped at Jonny.

And if they did, just how high up is he on that list?

The thing is, we spend months scouting players, so to not make mistakes(again) and end up buying expensive flops.

Look at Mangala. Oh, wait a minute.

There is nothing wrong with Evans playing for WBA. That's his level. And at his age. But if we want to be serious contenders for the PL and CL, and with a question mark still over Vinny, Jonny Evans is not a replacement or the answer. And certainly not for £20mill.

PSG confirm Draxler is not in their plans.
Alexis Sanchez located in Paris.

Put two and two together and you end up with a swap deal. Draxler to Arsenal, Sanchez to PSG. Wenger satisfied he has got a good replacement and kept Sanchez away from clutches of another premier league team.

While it's fun to entertain, in reality swap deals rarely happen. Do you recall any notable ones?

Who do I suggest?

I'm not on the transfer team at City. I'm not one of the scouting network dotted all around Europe and the World. I'm not one of the analyst team at City. But between them all, the final solution for a 4th centre half is Jonny Evans. Please! So there isn't a better centre half for less money anywhere else in the UK, Europe or the World?? And apart from signing him, if it happens, which I hope doesn't happen , West Brom are pulling our shorts down as well.
Think about it, if it's true. £18mill for 'Jonny Evans. Possibly £20+mill if another bid is true. Wow!

How much would you have paid for him last season? A centre half in a team that finished 10th by parking the bus and conceding 51 goals, with Jonny at the heart of their 5 Man Pulis defence.

Going back to Sanchez. Hypothetical I know. I'll admit that. But people are baulkiing at my suggestion of an extra £10mill to secure Sanchez. £60mill? Yet they don't mind blowing £20mill on Jonny Evans. The money has gone to ours heads.
I've said all Summer long we needed as a priority to back up our central defence because Kompany is essential to us and in the best scenario, he'll need to be rested at some point. I have no problem at all with City deciding to supplement our 3 main central defenders, rather than replace one of them, which is effectively what you are advocating. At this moment in the transfer window I am relieved because I thought we were going to go into the new season with just Kompany, Otamendi and Stones. I' wondering if we play 3 at the back if Mendy can be part of that. We'll see.

We also need a forward. This would fit in with that plan

A forward is not as urgent as a defender imo, but it would be the icing on a great transfer window if we could get Mbappe. This is part of that strategy, or I would like to believe it is.

I'm not saying I condone the transfer but my original question still stands.

Evans is class, he's improved since he left United, ball playing centre back who's actually a proper defender too, he should be at a CL club and imo he'd walk into your XI

If Sanchez effectively refused a straight transfer to Paris why would he agree to be part of a swap deal?

All of these arguments seem to essentially boil down to

"I believe I'm a more accurate judge of what Pep Guardiola wants than Pep Guardiola is." Now Guardiola's not infallible, but "I know best" isn't a convincing argument from you.

On top of that, everyone who's watched WBA thinks Evans is a class above, but you, who probably watch them twice a season, think he's not. Again, hard to side with you on that.

Possible scenario next season. Jonny alongside one of Ottamendi or Stones, or a back 3 of.

Your thoughts on that.

Where should Jonny play in the back 3?
I don't know my thoughts because I don't watch Johnny Evans every week, so I can't comment on the little I've seen.

Just like most of our signings, I will have an opinion on him when I've properly watched him play.
