Are they, or are you assessing united against a set of idealised footballing attributes that are perhaps of lesser importance than the way the strengths they do have sit against the ability of the other teams in the Premier League to cope with them? I would argue that it doesn't matter that they don't have much of a build up plan and that they aren't the quickest to resume defensive shape. They're a gigantic physical team with blistering pace in the final third, and attacking players who thrive running against isolated defenders, and those are precisely the strengths they utilise. If they face a parked bus, they rain whipped crosses in to an assortment of giants until something breaks for them by accident or design, and then they rape you on the counterattack thereafter. When they face decent opposition capable of outplaying them - limited pretty much to City and Spurs - they park a massive bus of their own.
There's no great finesse to it, but it's hugely effective and they have a squad full of expensive players ideally suited to that MO.
As we saw last season, it's rare that they lose anyway, but I think the draws that blighted them against the lesser lights will not be an issue this time around. They may not be a great side in the traditional sense, but they will be hugely effective
Sensible post, this.

What would be the point of handing in a transfer request, though. It will not force Arsenal to sell any more than now and just weaken him if they make him stay.

They know - on the grounds of not being utterly thick - that he is very unhappy, so a transfer request tells them nothing new.

If Arsenal are serious he will stay regardless, just like Liverpool will keep Coutinho if they want to do so irrespective of his transfer request.

Looks like Arsenal mean what they say, but if they do not it will happen in the next few days. Going to the last day or so helps neither club so would be idiotic.
Good perspective to this saga.

I'm increasingly doubtful that this will happen. It just doesn't look like Sanchez is forcing a move and Arsenal won't budge unless we offer silly money.

Hmmm was he not saying last week about wanting a couple more players in,as in attacking, why the sudden turnaround ..

Maybe even City's owner has thought fuck it we will get him for free next season, that will teach Arsenal to be greedy, who knows though, I would say we dodged another press mauling if we payed out 50-70m for somebody that will be free in 12 months, hell it was bad enough after the 17m for De Jong lol

Next summer there'll be a "new" Mbappe on the block who's had a good year. ;)

Maybe we're not being greedy. Maybe for once we're valuing football before money. Maybe they are convinced he will get us in the top 4 and that wil cover the loss. Maybe I'm talking bollocks.

Maybe you are on the wrong forum ;)
