Alexis Sanchez

I'm sure a professional player nearing the end of his career will take that extra 60k per-week, and however much more the signing-on fee United is paying, to play whatever football he's asked of.

So he's just a greedy cnut is what you are saying, and football means nothing to him.

Played in a poor Arsenal team and won cups, moving to a shite footballing team/manager and will probably win a couple of cups, rinse and repeat .

Signing Sanchez would of been good for the short term but the most important decisions are tying down the likes of KDB, Sterling and Gabby to new deals (and possibly Pep). We might not be able to afford to do that if we had bought him in this window.

Not paying £35 million for a 29 year-old with six months left on his contract?

Yeah, terrible business.

Funny all the u turns on here. Said it last night we've overpaid on most of our players we signed over the years. Good chunk of them being shite too. 24m for RVP at his age was laughed at as bad business when we missed out on him too

Honestly I now think that utd have gone very public about this that they are extremely confident of signing him.

Reason I say this is that if Sanchez now signs for City even though utd offer more money ..... where does it leave them ?

Extremely embarrassed- and I just don’t see them leaving themselves exposed for that to happen.

It’s like VVD - if we did make overtures to sign him ( and got informed he was Liverpool bound ) we sure did them on the quiet to ensure we could always say ‘ City were not chasing him....’

They have not done this - hence why I feel they know he is joining them.

I would agree, it's not normal for Utd to go out on a limb.

Could be having their arses slapped in public though.

I don’t think I’d use Spurs as an example of how to establish a dynasty.
Not totally, but they do run a tight ship and they keep buying good players at good prices consistently enough. Trouble is they don't buy enough of them, preferring to mend and make do with what they have. Their problem is that they have geared this to making money rather than spending it and pushing on to the next level much like their cross London friends at Arsenal.

It was bad business.

Utd have been a poorly run club ever since & this is an example of it.

If he signs for them, I'm sure he hopes he will win something, but it isn't the top of his agenda, money is.

Might be a very sad end to a career which has never really hit the level it could have.

No guarantee Utd will be better next season than this. They might be considerably worse, if Mourinho stays.

Mate, you're choosing the alternative of United not doing well as your base of reasoning to say that Sanchez is making the wrong decision.
Just like that, Sanchez is probably basing his decision on the scenario that United will win + pay him more than City.

So, I'm sorry but what makes you so confident that money is the sole distinguishing reason? And even if it is, what is wrong with that? Curious to know if a family member of yours, for instance, had the chance to earn more money at one place than another, would you also start giving them a guilt-trip for choosing money?

It's a little annoying when people apply 'moral' high grounds to people they aren't directly associated with, but won't apply to those they are directly associated with.

If money is an issue for Sanchez because the Rags have offered him so much more than City that it is hard to turn down, I personally think City should look at offering him some sort of deferred signing on fee that it contingent on him playing a certain number of games or completing X months of his contract. That should not need accounting for until it is due and other players can be told, if need be, it is a signing on fee and he has got it because we have still paid massively under his market rate for the transfer fee.
