Was listening to a couple of London journos who were studio guests on talkshite at about 9pm
Both were adamant that Sanchez would be leaving despite what Arsenal and Wenger are saying
I'm trying to second guess what he is doing in the transfer market as a hint of what's happening. Lacazette is a striker, we've been after 1 for a couple of years now so i don't think he's anything to do with the Sanchez situation.
Our next strongest link is for Thomas Lemar. Now, it all depends if Wenger see's him as a potential Sanchez replacement, or he's looking to add more quality / depth to the attacking midfield. We don't know is the honest answer. Going from Sanchez / Ozil to Iwobi / Walcott for instance is a big drop in quality, so he might be looking to bridge that gap somewhat. It could be a smart move getting Lemar in now, getting him accustomed to the league under ready to take over from Sanchez / Ozil in a year or 2. However, he could also be seen as a straight replacement positionally wise for Sanchez just now.
If Lemar is signed with the view that Sanchez is staying, i think that's when Mahrez becomes the wild card. To me, he seems the obvious Sanchez replacement if we were looking like for like, more of a maverick, an individual capable of doing something on his own to unlock a game. I found it interesting when Wenger was asked about him last month, & he replied "Have we made a bid for him? No. Not yet. Not yet means it could happen, it could not happen." I think he could be back up if we fail to get Lemar, or as a potential Sanchez replacement should he leave. So if Roma's interest in Mahrez is true, it might force Wenger's hand somewhat, & bring things to a head. If Lemar is still alive, & he still goes for Mahrez, then it's for sure Sanchez is for the off.
