Maybe. I just can't see the sense in keeping him for a year.

Do you guys not notice this trend? Every year there seems to be a rush for one of your big players because their contract is coming up, and every year you guys post about how it's all fine and they'll never sell to a rival and they'll play until they run out, and every year they leave. Surely you have noticed this? Why do you constantly think it will be different every new time?

There's some recent precedence in Arsenal's favor in that they haven't sold a lot in the past 5 years since RVP. They've largely been buying than selling.

Because Kelechi Iheanacho and Nolito made 70 appearances for us last year combined.

but depsite that neither were happy with their amount of playing time and that's despite being clearly inferior players to the ones picked ahead of them. I imagine it would create even more unrest with players who all see themselves a couple of levels above those two.

I would love it to work and would be happy to be proven wrong on this but i can't see how you can satisfy all of those players. I understand the merits of and the need for rotation but i still think your top drawer players need to know they're the first pick when push comes to shove. They want to know that if a champs league final came along and they were all fit, they'd be getting the nod. If we can get him and everyone can be happy then brilliant, let's do it. I just find it hard to believe myself.

With all respect mate, we were hampered. We were tied into long term sponsorship deals and kit deals that were way below market value and what our rivals were getting, we had to make a profit each year, so to buy players we had to trade.

You honestly think that our club doesn't care about winning? I would say we aren't ruthless enough when it comes to winning, but I think we are just not good enough at the end of the day, rather than not caring.
Bollicks, there were times about 2/3 the way through last season that your players clearly threw the towel in away from home, otherwise you would have pissed too 4. And now the one that was trying wants to leave. #will to win my ARSE

There is no doubt something in that in that Arsenal suffered from Chelsea and then City's windfall. Arsenal played it safe and chose not to compete and now Wenger is sat on a volcano, but it's his and his board's making. I don't believe that Arsenal could not have responded any other way. There are the financial markets, their cash pile and their own billionaire backers. If you want to put it down to economics, how do City make a profit when spending twice as much as Arsenal? Arsenal were in a very powerful position as you were in the top 2 and could pick the best players.

As Marvin points out, you're owned by 2 extremely wealthy individuals who could have chosen to spend but didn't. Don't buy 'we had to make a profit' either. You could have speculated to accumulate and didn't.

Loyalty bonus for leaving the club?

So you are a thick **** then ?

Now, some of the players did look like they had thrown in the towel, but the uncertainty surrounding the manager didn't help, I remember you guys didn't look too clever with the speculation surrounding Pelligreni either.

We've won 3 FA Cups in 4 years, so you can't say we aren't winning anything. What we aren't is good enough over the course of a season to win the league, or good enough to even challenge for the Champions League, I'll fully admit that.

The owner is a Billionaire who treats it like a business. He wants it to be successful but they've chosen a route where it's fully self sufficient.

The other Billionaire is more of a fan, he wants to invest his money, buy isn't allowed to. He's not even been afforded the luxury of a seat in the board, they don't talk to each other and he has absolutely no say in how the club is run really.

That's why there is a power struggle, and a lot of the fans want Usmanov in,as he has the wealth but also more importantly the hunger to see the sporting side succeed seemingly.

The Pellegrini final season was painful, but at least we knew it was coming to an end. A lame-duck manager is bad.

But you have just signed up for that, or Wenger and your board have. And if Sanchez is held for his final year then he will be in the same boat. I can remember similar situations when City players chose to see out their contracts eg Distin and Barton and it was very disruptive. Fans weren't happy and gave the players loads of stick. It's going to be a repeat of last season at Arsenal. I suppose I can't say that. Football is funny, but everything does point towards that.

I think the point of not challenging for the PL or the CL is key. If I was Sanchez, being on the top of my game, and 28, I would ask myself where will I have the biggest chance of winning PL and CL within the next 2-3 years. Is it Arsenal, Bayern or City? Now we can argue the whole day about the answer to that question, but I think City is the best guess. With all due respect I do not see Arsenal under the current management change significantly from what they have been the last years, so it will be FA cups at the most in the next 2 years. Bayern is going into a generation change with major players coming to an end of their careers (Lahm, Alonso stopped already, Robben, Ribery next), so it is reasonable to think they might not be able to win the CL anytime soon. Lastly there is City with Pep and all the money to invest in the team ...

Bayern are utterly dominant in that league to an extent I don't think any English club can hope for. But if Sanchez is going to go to Bayern, I think we'd know by now. Confederations Cup is about to start and I think had Bayern been an option he'd have got the deal to Bayern wrapped up before it started.

You are right, Bayern is dominant in the Bundesliga to the point that they hardly celebrate being champions anymore.
The point I was trying to make is that I think (hope) they will go a bit backwards in the next couple of years until they have replaced that group of players that retired/have retired. In the past I saw Bayern in the same bracket as Real and Barcelona, now I hope they will take 1 step downwards and just maybe City can overtake them.

As fans, we always look for a glimmer of hope going into the new season. We now know Wenger is staying, so for us the hope is that they have become a bit hurt by the criticism, therefore they will become a bit more aggressive in the market this summer, and that we carry on the good form at the end of the season since the system change into the beginning of next year. It's not like it was a disaster of a season like Chelsea a couple of years ago & Utd of recent times. We had a horrible spell, but we actually had our best points total in years, finished 1 point of the top 4, and won the FA Cup.

Under normal circumstances, you would say that there's no reason after more investment we cant improve further. But then, everyone is looking to do the same. The Sanchez thing is a bit of a nightmare, & like i have always said, i can see arguments for both sides. I've said i think he will eventually move on, & probably to join you guys. So, yes, it will probably be more of the same from us, unless something unexpected happens in the market, & then over the course of the season, which i just cant see us pulling off.

I think Arsenal should do a lot better with the players you have and potential resources available. But credit to you for thinking positively and commenting so reasonably

Sounds like its a messed up situation.
I really think an old sleeping bag is a hypocrite who is holding you guys back. Professor cvnt economist for two more seasons is good for the rivals.
Funny arsenal wants to block Sanchez to city instead of blocking extension for sleeping bag.
