He can't decide his future for 12 months. We already know he isn't signing the Arsenal contract.

Interesting that his interview comes just a day after all the papers reported City are in for him. Seems like the media were briefed by us/Arsenal and now he gives this interview.

Not a disaster maybe but not good enough to make us serious title contenders. I for one never felt comfortable when we were being attacked. Furthermore, while we sometimes defended reasonably well far too often we were taken to the cleaners normally in big games. It may be my perception but it is more valid than some who believe that bent refs and bad luck were the reason we finished half a mile behind the Chavs.
I doubt people were saying our defence wasn't a disaster during the two games against Monaco especially when they nodded in that free kick to knock us out. We are clearly building a squad to try and win the league and to genuinely challenge for the champions league if not win that too. If anyone thinks stones and Otamendi (or Kolarov) is a partnership that can do those things then they're bonkers imo. As you say when the pressure was on in big matches our defence was nowhere near good enough. Kompany changes everything for us but we know we can't totally rely on him anymore.

I think the club are more confident than they've been in a while about Vinny's fitness. Notwithstanding that, even if we don't sign a CB I think just having proper full backs either side will make an enormous difference to the stability and control of our defence.

Pretty clear he wants to leave. If he was staying i'd assume he would have said that a long time ago. He has already made his decision but doesn't know the chances of him staying at Arsenal? A clear sign he wants out.

Sanchez also said:
"Since I was 15yo, I wanted to be the best in the world. Today? I just feel the same."

When/if we get him. We will be getting an extremely ambitious world class footballer. With a winning mentality. I'd compare his mentality to that of a certain Portuguese footballer.

He won't be happy with much rotation. He will want to play every game. He wants to be the star man. And Pep must know that.
Which means that Sane/Aguero/Jesus/Sterling will be doing most of the rotating. That could result in at least 1 unhappy player IMO. Especially in a world cup year (If they all stay fit most of the season that is).

But we will have a squad capable of winning everything regardless.

Apart from the obvious (conceding soft goals in big moments) my worry is that we've splashed a ton of cash on Stones and if he spends another season largely playing next to Otamendi or kolarov then this time next year there's every chance he will have had his chance with us and be on his way. He needs to play next to komapny or someone else with ability to organise this season, it is crucial for his development. You know my feelings on kompany, nobody would be more happy than me for him to stay fit but I still think it is absolutely unnecessary to rely on him playing 50+ matches when we are throwing around so much money in other areas of the team. I'll be gutted if we don't sign a CB. Having a decent left back will help immensely, Our options there last season were woeful.

I talked to Marti Perarnau the other day about CB's and he was basically saying what you're saying. Pep wants A N Other CB who is essentially a leader. This way if Vinny does breakdown Stones has a natural alternative next to him. The word he used the most is 'stability' and Pep wanting that stability that Vinny brings even when he's not there. The profile of defender they want is Bonucci/Alderweireld as opposed to Stones/Laporte if that makes sense.
