At 29 a player is probably at his peak.
Many maybe at their peak at that age, but not usually forwards, or players that rely significantly on their speed. Furthermore, a club in our position should buy a player who will have his peak at our club, not at someone else. This is a deal that we would have done years ago. Not one we should be doing now.

Guardiola has only twice in his managerial career bought outfield players who are 29 or older: Nolito and Alonso. Why?

Seems to be turning over a new leaf he tried to sign Danny Alves and Jonny the magician Evans in the summer.

From Sam Lee

City’s transfer plans seem to be even more fluid than the summer. - A forward is now most likely, but not guaranteed. Approach made for Alexis. -

Here's the Arsenal cookbook:
Step 1: Push fake rumours that they'll sell Sanchez in Jan if they get a replacement
Step 2: Sign no one come end of Jan and act surprised - "oh well, we tried our best"
Step 3: Tell City that they can't have Sanchez
Step 4: Lose him on a free in the summer and hope everyone forgets about transfers because there's a world cup
Step 5: Kroenke pockets all the money saved
Step 6: Wenger gets a congratulatory email and a pat on the back

'Lost a yard of pace' means that in a unit of time, the player travels a yard less. Simple, as is my point the ageing effect which I think is apparent in Sanchez's game. Inability to beat a man one on one.

He's still a good player, but a club in our position can buy the very best. Sanchez is not. He's 29 and you can see the effects in his game which are not explained by motivation alone.
OK, is the loss of 'a yard of pace' a matter of fact or your opinion? If it is indeed fact, please feel free to enlighten me with another Bleacher Report statistic to prove this.

Can you also provide a metric to prove his 'inability to beat a man one on one'? This is the most worrying stat for me because in our last match, I too can draw instances where Sane, Sterling, Aguero, Silva & KDB also failed on occasion to beat our opponents one on one.

In terms of ageing, you're a day older than you were 24 hours ago. However I can see your point that Sanchez shouldn't be bought because he too has aged a day in the last 24 hours, unlike normal professional footballers who don't age at all.

My understanding is that all footballers physically remain age 18, until they reach age 34 in solar years, by which time their bodies go through an instant chrysalis process, & their bodies miraculously catch up to their solar years.

The weird world of Quantum mechanics has a lot to answer for mate.

I can't answer your question. If such evidence exists I don't know where to find it. It's just my impression. My impression is that Sane and Sterling are much quicker than Sanchez and frequently beat a man one on one, but I can't quantify it.

I don’t see how the club can think Evans is going to be cheaper than Martinez.

Martinez has a buyout of around £30m.

Now Van Dijk has gone for £75m, add that along with with West Brom potentially getting relegated, they are going to want at least £40m.

Don’t like Arsenal opr Arsene Whinger but Kroenke doesnt ‘pocket the money saved’ - they have lost at least 60million as a result of not selling Sanchez or Ozil in the summer - dreadful contract/financial management.
Still think this may get done
