All these bandwagon jumping take overs to end in tears?

Can't help feeling some of the so called billionaire take overs in football seem a bit random and short-term. Fit and proper person test will end in tears, I'm sure. Just a gut feeling (and I don't mean City).

I think it will.

But I also think that our situation is completely different to the other takeovers. I believe our owners have other plans other than just buying a football club. They're very wise people and have a long-term plan which MCFC will be the core of, but they haven't bought us just to say "I've own a Premier League club".

Ours is a long-term takeover, and I don't feel worried about what the owners are going to do with our football club, not am I concerned that they'll pull the plug on us.

If we become a success in the short-term, i.e 2-3 years, which is looking more likely by the day, i can see these take-overs happening more and more Pam. I wonder how much of a part the almost immediate success of Chelsea played in the Glazier-Hicks/Gillette-Learner take-overs.

The reality is (with the exception of United who are in a different league in terms of manager, revenue generation, brand and where they started) that the takeovers that succeed are only the ones where thethat people taking over have the money that a) they can afford to blow the game apart financially and out compete anyone (Walker, Abramovich and now Mansour did that) b) they can afford to blow a lot of money and not go bust if they do and c) they can do this out of spare change and not have their life effected if it doesn't work.

When Walker did it being worth a few hundred million was enough now I would say to really make a dent in football you have to be a multi billionaire who like ROman or Mansour can happily throw half a billion at a club without blinking! Guys like Ashley, Gillett, Hicks etc are worth a few hundred million and to really change their clubs would take every penny they have something they are not prepared to risk.

So now you have to be worth billions and I am not sure who of the new owners is that rich and able to really make change and who is worth a few hundred million and in it for the ego?

The raggiest statement I have ever read on here. It's okay for City but not for other clubs?

No raggyness intended, so don't be so rude. Most of these takeovers genuinely do seem a bit frenzied and bandwagon. City's doesn't. It's just a fact.

Our owners showed they meant business by fronting up the Robinho money last year and again this summer.

They are SO wealthy that their recent spending is like small change. However other take-overs seem to be for the 'glory' of owning a football club, rather than a long term project. The manager then goes a bit mad and buys a load of players only for six months down the line to find out it was all on borrowed money.

That happened at Pompey when Gadaymak arrived and at West Ham when they were taken over by the funny looking Icelandic guy (they paid Lucas Neill £70,000 a week FFS!!) Look at them both now.

I have to admit I was a bit suspicious when we were taken over (probably an in built reaction after years of let downs!) but since then I'm now convinced it is the best thing to ever happen to the club.

I don't like the way football is going but if billionaire owners are the thing at the moment its a good job City have got one too.

As for the 'fit and proper' test for ownership that's a load of rubbish. Anyone is a fit and proper person to run a football club. Clubs aren't schools or old peoples homes where dodgy types need to be kept out. They are businesses staffed by adults.
