All Time Top 1100 Albums (Aerosmith - Big Ones) P265

I'm not a huge fan but do like a lot of Neil Young's work and really should've tried more of the rest of the members of CSNY, and CSNY themselves to be fair, so this was a first time listen for me. I'm scoring each song on these albums then calculating the overall average ...

1. Music Is Love - 6 /10: Easy start if a bit bland. I think by the time you get to the final track you realise they bookend the album so it's just an intro to me.
2. Cowboy Movie - 7.5 / 10:
3. Tamalpais High (At About 3) 6 / 10:
4. Laughing - 6.5 / 10:
5. What Are Their Names - 7 / 10:
6. Traction In The Rain - 4 / 10:
7. Song With No Words (Tree With No Leaves) - 5 / 10:
8. Orleans - 8 / 10: Unusually for me a short song wins best track due to the nice use of vocals, just pipping the longest track
9. I'd Swear There Was Somebody Here - 6 / 10:

Avg 6.25 / 10

Seems a harsh score but there's only two tracks on there that I wouldn't choose to listen to again. It's hardly a ground-breaking album to me but David Crosby is added to my Follow list and I'll be trying the rest of his repertoire.

Good effort! cheers, i will round this up to 6/10

With CSNY, yes, you should have tried more.

With the other members’ solo efforts, no, should not have tried more, nor maybe at all.

Neil Young is a genius. The other members have decidedly proven over many decades that they are not, at least not without each other.

I haven’t yet listened to this, and while I was curious and looking forward to Beth Orton, here I am dreading finding the time, as I am pretty sure I already know what I think. But nonetheless I will attempt to keep an open mind.

Hey, I'm onto "Cowboy Movie" now -- for those of you that have listened, does this song ever end? And is there a chord change coming eventually? I mean I've been listening for like ten minutes and . . . oh wait, there's one. Well done.

Yes, I am going to milk this for all it's worth.

haha, i think you need to be stoned to enjoy this. skip to 3/4/5 a good purple patch

Well, it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. 1/10.

Just kidding. It was exactly as bad as I thought it would be, but probably a 2/10. One of those two points is for Laughing, which at least sounded vaguely like a very slow (or high) CSNY (probably because I’m pretty sure S, N and Y sang back up on it).

Look, I am no fan of hippie doobie music of any ilk, especially when no drum kit is involved, and one of the things I like about CSNY is that there was a social change element to their lyrics, and their harmonies were terrific. What I love about Mr. Y is that not only has he tackled difficult social change issues of all stripes over 50 years, but his guitar work is a wall of beautiful noise and he kicks fucking ass hook-wise. In contrast, what random busker in the Goodge Street underground station couldn’t have come up with this record just by fiddling around for a few hours? If I want music I can just ignore, I’ll put on a good Brian Eno ambient.

The other point I’m giving this record comes solely because I live five minutes from Tamalpais High. My two kids go to a different school, but we have plenty of friends there. The song itself refers to the time classes get out.

Random trivia question – who is the most famous musician to ever attend Tamalpais High? Hint: think of the most opposite possible person to David Crosby.

It's no Talking Heads......... ;-)

When I was high -- which was every day for about a year and-a-half many, many moons ago -- the go-to was one band, and one band only: Steely Dan. Not this hippie crap.

I am hopeful the next record you randomly select will employ the use of a snare drum or ride cymbal. Because I think between the last nine songs on Beth Orton's record and all nine on this one, that's 18 consecutive songs I've listened to without either. I am confident that is a new personal record. I'm going to listen to PiL now just to clear my head!
