Alternative striker options

Worst case, Aguero gets injured in the next month then Sterling plays up top. Jesus is back relatively soon so making an impulse buy in January doesn't make too much sense

I imagine if we do get an injury we can bring Brahim Diaz into the squad

I wonder when Mendy comes back will we switch to a 3-5-2. If we play just 2 strikers then we do not need an extra striker. Aguero might thrive playing with a partner centrally.

Also there seems to be a split here about Aguero. People want him to stay but also want to sign a striker for 100 million. If we sign somebody that expensive it may cause some tension amongst the squad. I am sure Aguero will be forced out if we sign somebody that expensive. I think it would be better to sign somebody younger/cheaper. Maybe Bernard from Shaktar or Lucas from PSG. In my opinion the strike force is set with Sane Jesus and Sterling. They are the future. Bring in somebody who can cover for them. Not an expensive signing that will have to play every week to justify his fee.

As it stands we have 4 players for 3 positions in the first team for our style of play to really be effective. We need Sane and Sterling on the wings to stretch the play and make room through the middle. If one of these two isn’t in form, needs a rest or gets injured, then we only have Bernardo to come in and he’s not fast enough to have the same impact in this system. So ideally we need another quick winger with good passing ability who can also play through the middle effectively. Someone like Griezmann ticks all those boxes for me.

I think Aguero would leave if we brought someone of Griezmann’s stature in though, so that means we’d need another attacker so we can have 5 players for the 3 positions in a 4-3-3.

I’m totally torn on the Sergio situation. On one hand he’s a world class striker who has helped the club reach the heights we have so there’s huge sentimental value there. But at the same time he doesn’t look comfortable in this system and has been rumbling with the media about his relationship with Pep. It’s a tough one.

Nearly every City fan would let Aguero play for life due to the historic moments we have had thanks to him.

Aguero always benefits from having someone close to him so he can find pockets of space. He would be a lot happier in a side with Mendy as Sane and Sterling can then get closer to him. Griezemann would be a great signing as he works so hard off the ball and can create chances and drift out wide if we need him to. Having said that, I am sure Pep still likes the idea of a Lewandowski type striker who is always able to hold the ball up and take their chances whether the ball is crossed high or low.

Kane is that man but realistically I cannot see how we would sign him.

Rather than buying Kane we should be producing our own version at the CFA. After it is supposed to be the world's finest facilities so we ought to be producing the world's finest talents there.

It's only been open for 3 years.

3-5-2 is a good option when Mendy returns, but 4-3-3 / 4-1-2-3 remains the preferred system for most games. If Aguero goes, Jesus is our only player who naturally plays in the centre of a front three. Bernard would be a good signing, but we already have Sane, Sterling & Bernardo pushing to play in those two wide roles.

Aubameyang is the one striker out there who's available and could fill the hole left by Aguero if he moves on imo. And fee-wise, we'd probably get more for Aguero than we'd have to pay for Aubameyang (whose price is quoted as around 60m)

My instinct tells me that Jesus will not be fully fit until April and Sergio is always being targetted by central defenders, so we need some back=up even if only on loan.

"David Villa is determined to go to the World Cup as part of the Spain squad, having ended a three-year wait for an international cap in 2017.

"I know that Lopetegui is watching me and that I'm one of the attacking candidates," Villa told Efe.
"In the end, he will decide which players are best and I'd be delighted to be part of the squad.
"What I will do is play well and train hard at the highest level to get the best out of myself."

Villa scored five goals in his last five appearances in 2017, although NYCFC did not make it to the MLS Cup final after the club fell to the Columbus Crew in the Eastern Conference semifinals."

Pep, please, sign him....

It’s arguably took Tottenham’s entire history as a football club to develop a player like Kane.

Balotelli looks to have calmed down a lot and is banging goals on for fun. He'd come to us instantly if he could as well. Perhaps a loan deal?

That's not worst case. Sterling or Jesus in the center is more effective than Aguero IMO.

That is simply not true as our lineup in arguably our most important game of the season so far has shown (Away at United).

And tbh, I'm not sure they even fancied him that much. Sent him out on loans all over the place and kind of got forced into giving him a chance through injuries.

If and when we replace Kun it's going to cost us a small fortune. Transfer fees are now increasing at an alarming rate and to acquire someone of equal quality will mean parting with some serious wonga. As it stands taking into consideration age and quality I cannot think of a single player we could go for. As others have alluded too, we really did drop a bollock by not having a proper punt on Mbappe.

Moving forward the only way will be the academy but need to find a way to keep hold of prospects like Sancho hw could have saved us 100m in 3 years

I likend a return of Balotelli to the Jurassic Park films. Them small vicious fuckers rip anything and everything apart until that bloke in the latest film gets them under control and has them doing as they are told. I could see Pep doing this with Mario.

Whilst I love Balotelli he is the most unlike Pep player you could find. Won't move around wants to ball to him and in love with himself not quite a team player
