alternative to Euro Super League

With all this Der Spiegel crap about this so-called Super League & the hatchet job on City's reputation, its got me thinking.....

Majority of blues on here seem reluctant to actually join this Super League with the Cartel clubs, and the hatchet job seems to show that they aren't too enamoured with both PSG and us anyway, so why don't we just let them leave UEFA and form their own league without relegation and just carry on in our pokey little Premier League.

We could invite the 5 guest clubs the cartel clubs wanted to invite into their league (and use as the relegation patsys,) along with the top twenty or so other teams from Europe and bring the Championship teams on board too (their attendance figures are in the top half dozen or so leagues in Europe already) to create a 3 tier premier euro league with relegation & promotion, sponsorship deals with Etihad/Emirates which also includes subsidized flights for games involving the Euro sides.

UEFA could still be involved, perhaps running a revised European Cup involving top teams from all the other European leagues, where the winners (and maybe runners-up) gain entry into the Premier league pyramid, and a new FFP system would be introduced, which targeted debt and allowed investment as long as it was guaranteed

The 9 team Super (cartel) League might be able to attract other Euro teams to join (but the 20 year protection from relegation would surely turn the majority of sensible teams off), but it might turn into a closed shop and similar to the Kerry Packer cricket leagues (circus)

Twenty teams from the champions of each country, minor countries have play offs, take a year out from their own league and only champions of Champions league remain. It means there will be new champions in domestic leagues with less chance that it will be the same team over and over. Obviously those teams in CL which dont win it will not be there the following year keeping the CL open to all. Domestic cups remain. CL teams get CL money only shared equally between all.

I posted a suggested way to merge the super league and the CL in the other thread. And without clubs needing to leave their own leagues.

The superleague teams play their own mini competition Aug to Dec. 16 teams - 4 groups of 4 - rotated to an agreed pattern every year so all teams play all other teams over 4 years.

Home and Away as now - 6 games - plus knock outs based on positions to decide a Super League Cup winner each December.

The CL run as now with groups pre Christmas based on league positions other than the Super League.

After Christmas a straight KO cup with the qualifiers from the CL playing the Superleague teams seeded according to where they finished after the knock outs.

That way you can keep all the current competitions and create a Superleague.

Will never be agreed, of course.

The Harlem Globetrotters are an exhibition team - they don't play in a league. Are you proposing we wander the globe playing exhibition games against teams in the US and Asia?

hahahah we are that good maybe international football and FIFA could let us play maybe in the next world cup ????

united and the so called big 5 clubs in europe are talking about a european super league ?? but i feel they are missing the point and the market is US and world football and the money is world tv based so playing football in them countries will be crying out to watch live football games, midweek games anywhere in the world is no harder than playing in europe really and premier league games could still played at weekends, but both the cups could be revamped and made shorter or based on a mix of youth and first team players like 4 or 5 first team players that you need to name each season just like what we have now with champions league and premier league

Deffo time to start to think about what comes after CL is dead in its current format and the top15 maybe 20 elite clubs without us and PSG maybe are doig their own Supper League with no relegation style. I dont think they want to abolish PL, La Liga, Bundesliga so those would remain but instead of CL they would want something else without us.

Problem is sponsors an TV money would fly to the cartel competition quickly they wouldnt wanna miss Real-MU, Barca-Bayern , Juve-Liverpool games every other week..

Certainly the competition for the rest of us would carry much less prize money than current CL does.

Greed is behind it all, we are not different, remember PL top clubs wanted a different share of TV money instead of current kind of fair way, when even relegated clubs get around 90/100m but Champions get 150. Soriano, Pool board, Arsenal were all in favour to change this...

Same in CL, cartel wouldnt have problems changing CL prize money costing minnows and earning them extra millions.

No doubt Soriano would happily accept any invite from cartel to join Supper League. Thing is as much as they hate us we are kind of part of the cartel now.

But still totally can see a new competition where we arent invited or rest of European clubs apart from 20-30 clubs which usually does bring in the millions of viewers for TV!s too watch the games.

No, my idea was for the Premier League (with the biggest domestic TV deal) invites say 1 team from the other top 4 leagues (Dortmund, A Madrid, Inter & PSG perhaps) to replace the 4 cartel clubs. Then the remaining top 24 clubs in Europe based on finances & attendance figures are combined with the current Championship teams to make a Premier League B & C, with the top 12 Championship teams & the top 12 Euro teams placed in Premier B and the bottom dozen teams placed in Premier C

I think the 4 new teams in the Premier League would definitely compare against our 4 cartel clubs (Rags, Dippers, Arse & Chelski), and with the new revised FFP rules brought in to allow safe investment and targetting of debt then teams like Spuds, West Ham, Newcastle & Everton etc plus the sleeping giants currently in the Championship, along with all the European clubs too would in my eyes create a far more exciting league pyramid than the current CL/Europa League layouts and the Super League, which would probably end up as a two horse race between Barca & RM with the remaining teams not investing but taking home all the moolah and simply making the owners richer and eventually it will become a stale and boring format which fans/TV & sponsors would tire of. (the Karma of that would be wonderful)

The bad thing about the CL is the spread of all the good teams and the very few games they get to play against each other.

There were 125 games played between 32 teams in the CL last season yet only 12 of those games (9.6%) were between two top ten teams from the UEFA rankings. And there were 50 games (40%) between two teams outside the top ten!

Not playing all the best teams at least once makes the competition insignificant. Always has done. Always will do. If you aren’t judging yourself against all the other top sides it’s just about good Cup runs like the FA Cup. The FA Cup isn’t used as a judgement of the best team in England so the CL shouldn’t be a judgement on the best team in Europe.

A league system is the only way to weed out the wheat from the chaff. If you want to have a Play-offs between the top 4 at the end fair enough. But you have to play every one of the good sides at some point to be judged the best.
