Alvarez done deal - £82m to Atletico

Think if he wants out our best option would be to try negotiate with PSG to include Vitinhha or Simons or Both

Makes sense as he deserves to be starting every week for a big team. We have tried to get him in the team and I do believe that if he wasn’t to go this summer we’d again try and get him in the team alongside Haaland somehow.

They have to pay up though. And would want a great player signed in his place.

Foden, Bernardo and even Grealish have played false 9 before.

Alvarez is more of a false 9 than a fox in the box 9. A Musiala, Olmo type could probably do a false 9 job too.

I’d only really be entertaining selling Alvarez if the club knew who his replacement would be.
A few options I suppose, but would prefer keeping him for at least another year and see Haalands intention.

If we got Musiala in I wouldn’t be disappointed.

Who does he go to? Barca are broke, Real are littered with superstars and PSG I can’t see being an appealing move for him.

He’s a city fan and we keep winning.

I’m sure he’ll want to play under Pep more than any other potential City manager but we will still compete at the highest level once he’s gone. Can’t see Haaland going anywhere anytime soon if I’m honest.

England are shit, Argentina are decent. Neither is solely down to Foden or Alvarez. In my opinion to suggest that one player is responsible for a team of 11 being good or not is naive in the extreme
Exactly that. It’s usually a management or ownership structure that creates a culture firstly with a nod to strategy that allows already motivated people to grow and flourish. Pep is successful at City because he allowed to get on with his job and he is trusted to do it. Same with a football team or Sales team. Create the right structure, culture and strategy and then talent rises to the top. Those with less talent work harder to keep up or get found out. I remember a case study done in the US on people working 2 or sometimes 3 jobs. The same person who is very popular with staff and guests, often employee of the month as a hotel barista in the morning was anonymous working the tables at a casino in the evening. It’s the same person in two very different cultures.

I did not suggest that for a moment just giving a different view of the abilities of two City players. The view in Argentina is different to the popular view in Manchester. My point is that Julian contributes more to a team than Foden.

i think we should be adamant and demand at least 90m since he has an extended contract and how the striker market is dry now. if he would go, we need a versatile player who could play other position bar 9 IMO

Nightmare scenario is if we sell Julian this summer to accommodate him and then can't get a contract extension done with Haaland. We'd be up the fucking creek - Alvarez is quite literally the only insurance policy we have right now if Haaland doesn't want to keep playing in Manchester.

Another thing to keep in mind is how much it would cost to bring in a striker with Alvarez's resume and caliber to the club. We'd likely be paying north of £100m to get a Julian Alvarez if the roles were reversed. And that's even assuming a striker is available for purchase, which as we all know is far from a certainty. The striker market has been dry for years and star goal scorers usually don't just become available.

If that bum Rasmus Hojlund went for £72m last summer I don't' see how we're selling for anything less than £85-90m and that's only if we get positive news on Haaland signing a contract extension. I know I'd be pushing for a 9 figure fee given what Atleti paid for Joao Felix.
