Anyone who has been to see the trophies on display the past 11 months will know you can't even look at the pieces of silverware without risking a "don't even think about touching it" glance from one of the security bods.....
But it wasn't always like that......
Here is the extraordinary tale of two 12 year old school girls - Liz and Sue (as told by Liz. She posted this elsewhere and has given permission for me to post it here)
In 1956 when City beat Birmingham City 3 - 1 to win the FA Cup, I was 12. My friend Sue lived on Mornington Crescent quite close to City's Roy Clarke, who lived on Victoria Road Fallowfield.
A week or so after the final, Roy Clarke who knew Sue's dad, told him he was bringing the cup to his home to show off at Fallowfield Lawn Tennis Club that evening.
Sue and I walked to Roy's house and asked if we could hold the FA Cup. Not only did we hold the Cup, we walked back to her house, holding the FA Cup aloft and had our photograph taken in her garden before the two of us returned it to Roy Clarke's house. Fabulous memories to cherish.
