It is perfectly possible. Many Israelis, while they want to live securely, aren't fans of some of the policies. Many Jews who don't live in Israel feel the same. And you don't have to be Jewish to be able to be critical of Israel.
The problem arises when people come out with silly statements like abu13's or don't apply consistent standards to what they don't like. So the example I always use is Tibet, which China in 1949 claiming historic ownership. They've tried to wipe out Tibetan culture, imprisoned, tortured and murdered Tibetan activists, flooded it with native Chinese yet there's barely a murmur from those who are vocal in their condemnation of Israel.
Or claim that Israel is an artificial state set up by the West, when most of its neighbours are the same. And many African countries which were set up without regard to tribal tensions and where one tribe can and does subjugate and persecute the other or others.
