Obama's acceptance speech, however, was something else. I really do hope he makes a success of this - he seems a fundamentally decent human being. The House will be onside, and fingers crossed for the Senate too.
Jeez, a Democrat elected on a progressive platform after a positive campaign - who'd have thought that 4 years ago?
I thought this was the first time I'd seen the TRUE McCain, in his concession speech. I think had we have seen this side of him more HE would've won. I think he succumbed to his party's line and, in fact, the GOP was LESS progressive than McCain was. My respect for him, for the way he handled defeat, went up 100 fold.
As for Obama? Well, I'm plesantly surprised that he didn't go for the orchestral heart strings dreamy/ teary eyed speech, but continued in his quest to unite the US, by underlining his commitment to be a 'president for all people'. It was unthinkable that he would keep to his word of wanting work with John McCain to find a way forward, but that's what he said he would do and was confirmed by the phone call to McCain prior to the concession speech.
If the intention to usher real change isn't seen here, as an example, then when will we EVER trust a politian's intentions? Everybody wants to believe a politian in modern times.
Let's see if we can again, once more.
