An away end at home

You could put your best 3,000 beer fueled singers in the South Stand lower and the atmosphere wouldn't improve quite as much as we think due to the lack of noise retention in the stadium design.

In short, it's acoustically dead!

Sure the 3,000 involved in the singing would feel the noise but I'm not convinced either the rest of the stadium or TV audiences would notice a huge difference.

I'm all for trying mind, but I think pure physics plays the biggest negative part in lack of atmosphere rather than the fans.

dont agree with this at all. Anyone that went to the Hamburg game will know we can create an atmosphere. The stadium isnt the problem we as fans are to blame, we just need to sing

the roof on the new 3rd tiers slope downwards, I'm sure noise was part of their thinking

Level 3 south stand,in 18 months? What a great opportunity for a singing section could be a great catalyst for the rest of the ground.

If we miss this oppurtunity we will be posting similar posts in 2-3 years and by then it will be too late, I'm surprised if nothing is being organised by the 1894 group, then again I bet they won't agree on the location.

How do these ideas for safe standing etc get put forward to the club? And would they even bother? As long as they carry on making money and attracting the prawn sandwich brigade they may just leave it as it is. Down to us fans mainly.

Are you taking the mick?

I think he's taking the mick...

Away support for City has been brilliant for years and the atmosphere is always top no matter what the acoustics are. Is that because only the hard core travel away from home or is it because an away day is like a top day out where as going to a home game is what we do on a frequent basis so as such loses it's mojo a little?
I know when I go to home games I have my 5 year old with me so the build up to the game is very different to any away games I go to with the lads without the 5 year old in tow. Home games = Mcdonalds, Driving, family stand + being a dad. Away days = on the piss with the lads. Both equally enjoyable but different.
Not sure if having an away end at home would make a difference, we have singing sections who when they're good they're brilliant

He's right that the acoustics at the Etihad are poor. Nearly every factor works against a good atmosphere. One is that the regular singers are on the bottom tier and their sound drifts upwards with nothing to bounce off. Another is the two groups of singers unable to hear each other for that reason, and because the away fans are nearer to them than the other singing section. Another is tiers - only one down from having no roof at all when it comes to noise spreading. Another problem is the fact that the stadium is made of concrete which doesn't reflect noise. Another is do the sheer size of the stadium and height of the upwards-sloping roof

If the majority of the stadium is singing, including those towards the back, then the bowl keeps the sound in and magnifies it. It all meets in the middle of the stadium, like at wembley. That why on the really big games it can sound electric. But as it is you've got a whole series of things working against good atmosphere.

While I don't disagree with some of your points, the atmosphere has been getting worse, on average, year on year. And we haven't been changing the structure of the stadium! Us fans are to blame, that's the hard truth.
