Swap deals always sound easier than they are and ignore a lot of factors, such as whether Everton really want the players and also the wages. Milner will earn more than any player at Everton and Richards probably earns twice as much as the vastly superior Coleman who plays in the same position. Rodwell is probably the only safe bet for a swap deal since he is an actual Everton target.

The one other question is which foreign players will leave to make space for Mangala in our Champions League squad. At the moment we need to move 2 on (neither of which would be Nastasic).

Garcia and Demichelis probably can't see anybody else.

Why do we assume that we have to sell 2 players? We can only register 16 for this summer, doesn't make sense in selling the 17th one as he can be registered next season and he will play in cups and PL.

Time for a bit of creative accountancy in terms of getting Barkley:-

1 Agree a fee, say £30m plus Rodwell.

2 LOAN Rodwell to Everton for free for next season.

3 Get Barkley on LOAN for this season with a £10m loan fee paid up front.

4 Agree with Everton that Barkley's loan fee is deducted from next Summer's transfer fee.

5 Sell Garcia, Richards & Sinclair. That will raise well in excess of the £10m loan fee and keep UEFA happy.

6 Both Barkley & Rodwell transfers become permanent next Summer.

We have done business with Everton recently with Barry and that worked well for all parties.
