Even if i dont particularly enjoy the sound i have an interest in the music and the background, It started when i was working in the CO-OP at 16 and heard 'Like a rolling stone' being played, i found out it was Bob Dylan that sang this, Now i pretty much have all Bob Dylans albums (believe me that's alot) and never get tired of listening to him, Blonde on blonde is one of my favorite albums - When he did a song called 'Song to woody' .. that interested me and i found out through this he was inspired by Woody Guthrie and bought his Best Of album ... couldn't connect to the songs like i did Dylan but did like some of his songs - This Land Is Your Land and Pastures Of Plenty i can think of... This is how Music is to me, you enjoy an artist and you find out who there inspirations were, and you listen to them -
Through Beatles, i listened to Rolling Stones, through Rolling Stones i listened to Muddy Waters, Elvis, they had loads of inspirations - basically i love my music, all of it ! I am trying and struggling to get into Hip Hop but still interested in how it developed.
Point is, through all this, i enjoy listening to Oasis the most, that's my honest opinion, so when BOB or whoever think there all smug because they like to go against the grain and say Oasis are crap and i don't no anything - i know there talking bollocks, i also think if Oasis were not so successful BOB and co would be putting Oasis as there favorite Manchester band, we all have opinions - right or wrong. But when someone laughs or says i am wrong for having my own opinion that Oasis to me are the greatest ever band, i think bollocks to you.

I guess you'll never be able to complain about a City performance ever again because you're not a footballer.pominoz said:MCFC BOB said:Just to clarify, I think Oasis are the most distinctly average and therefore most over-hyped band in the history of music.
And how is your record deal going, Bob?.
Why did you apply logic you probably don't believe in and dig yourself into a hole just to join everyone else that's jumping on my back? I don't care about how much everyone loves Oasis when I post my opinion on them. Giving anything but absolute praise for Oasis on this forum has me in hot water anyway so I may as well say everything I think about them.
I actually quite like their first two albums. They were recorded when Britpop was at its absolute peak with Oasis and Blur battling it out. But I think Blur got over that and grew up and started to create more extravagant and daring music. Their last album, Think Tank, could have easily been a Gorillaz record. Albarn was well into the swing of his obvious eclecticism when it came to music and Blur went out on a high, exploring several versions of rock along the way.
Oasis' first two albums because so popular (deservedly so) that they carried on creating the same sound until they finally ran out of ideas, gave each other one final punch and split up. Now fair play to them for trying to make a bit of cash. I just find myself bored of Liam Gallagher because he's been the same person for roughly 25 years now and it started to show in Oasis' lack of invention when it came to writing new stuff. I will admit that they wrote a couple of songs I liked a lot in their later years (Lyla, The Importance of Being Idle, The Shock of the Lightning) but they just didn't do anything that said to me that they were looking to develop their knowledge of instruments - it just looks as if they were just content with being lazy and writing songs they'd pretty much already written years before. I'm not saying this is fact, this is just what annoys me most about them
Come to think of it, I don't know any Oasis fan that can look me in the eye and say their favourite Oasis song is from after Morning Glory. I will say once again that their first two albums are great, and I know a few of their B-sides (The Masterplan and Acquiesce are really nice songs) but 95% of their stuff is derivative garbage to my ears. If this makes me pretentious then so be it - like I said, I just don't care. I don't think Oasis ever grew as a band.

Well my favourite song by Oasis is "My Big Mouth".
My favourite album is "Be Here Now", and "Dig Out Your Soul" is a brilliant album too.
Sorry Bob, I know you like to demonstrate how much you know about music but the only songs you tend to mention B-side wise or later on in their career are the absolutely obvious ones like Masterplan or Lyla.
Personally, I wouldn't want to label bands as being shit and overrated unless I knew what their "d'ya wanna be a spaceman" or "nature of reality" is.
And one mans "lazy" is another mans "stick to what you're good at" - although I'd argue every album by Oasis is different. As a fan of Oasis I never felt like I wasted my money buying their albums, whereas also being a Metallica fan I can tell you now that purchasing St. Anger was a mistake.

Me too mate, I accepted it for what it was. Not the best stuff Metallica have done, but the more I listened to it, the more tolerable it became. If like many, you bought it expecting roaring leads and solos, you'd be disappointed. I like it now and still play it from time to time.
Stone Roses and New Order in relation to Manc bands.

I listened to it a bit when I first bought it but I thought the song writing was shit and unimaginative for the most part, and the production was probably the most painful thing I've ever had to put my ears through, Lars' snare was like someone bashing a kettle. Death Magnetic wasn't up there with their old stuff, but still a lot better than St. Anger.

Have you listened to Beyond Magnetic? Only a few songs, but I love them all.

Nah, never even heard of it actually! Will look into it
