I couldn't believe it myself mate. Tellingly, the club didn't comment to put the record straight, leaving Philips to issue a statement saying he was staying to fight for his place, citing Rodri, Jack, Stones & other players as having difficult first seasons under Pep.

"Rodri revealed that he cannot undergo that workload again, with the 27-year-old’s fears about fatigue only heightened by the introduction of new prolonged stoppage time in games, something already condemned by team-mate Kevin De Bruyne.

‘I don’t remember exactly the number of games I played, but I had a talk with the club and the coach because it’s not healthy,’ Rodri said.

‘You can do it for one season, but when it’s two or three in a row, it can be worse for the team because your physicality can drop. So I have to watch out. We have already spoken that, it cannot always be like this.’

Rodri – who was called upon more than planned as Kalvin Phillips struggled to acclimatise with the club after a £42million move from Leeds United – believes his career could be cut short if the intensity is not managed.

‘The important thing for me is that they know the situation and they know that for the next few seasons we will have to watch out,’ he added.

‘Now I am young, but maybe when I get to 30 or 31 I cannot do this kind of thing, so I have to watch the body because 60 games is not the best thing for a player. Also, the seasons get even longer every year. We have to adapt to this.’"

Ok...that's a bit dramatic

If I recall correctly, Rodri played 56 high level PL, CL, FA Cup & CC games last season, not including internationals. It's a lot to keep performing at your very best, & not risk injury through fatigue.

I was happy for Philips to stay & recover his Euro 2022 form. However, after seeing this interview, just like you I knew this wasn't Rodri's style & I doubt he'd have done this without the knowledge of the club. Connecting the dots, that's when it became obvious to me that Pep had lost faith in Philips.

A couple days before, I was calling for him to be given time, just as we've done with the previous boo boy Jack, BUT this article changed everything.

Pep & Rodri see Kalvin in training every day, so if they've lost faith in him, I don't need any further convincing. It's best for all that Philips moves on & rebuilds his career elsewhere.

Hmmm....Dinho appealed for us to sign him. Those are the ones ready to run through walls for the team.
When did Dinho say this can't find anything online? If he does rate this guy he must be a very good player even if he was half the player Fernandinho was I'd have him in especially at £30m

Well I hope he plays a lot better. Thiago one of the most over-rated players I can remember. Foul after foul and then a big wide eyed stare at the referee.
