Andy Burnham | Manchester Mayor

Can somebody please clarify as to what happens to the money generated by the 'sale' of 17000 houses assuming an average value of around £250k. Do the maths and we are talking massive numbers. Of course it assumes that they will be built...

Boris Johnson.
He did a great job as the London Mayor and he's available.
Did he?
How much did he spend on that bridge that was never built?
And how much public money was spent giving West Ham a free stadium, when he could have ensured the stadium was more easily adaptable to a football stadium like what happened with ours.

A very good, well written article. It exposes the lies peddled to Americans by American sports owners.
It warns that we the great British public are being conned by Burnham.
The CPO means the rags will get the land free. That means cuts to other vital public services.

Cuts and huge rate rises hopefully in Trafford.
Just as I thought, you don't actually know of anyone at all! You just want to moan.
Is it a role that needs filling ? In these days of poverty and homelessness it’s just an extra tier of government, we could save £115 thousand pound a year from his salary off the rates bill/Income tax?
Manchester the town hall does all the planning for our city.

Transferring jobs from our region into Merseyside costing millions is not the way to create anything for Greater Manchester.

Just because I didn't put a smiley you thought i was being serious. Seriously?
I didn't put one because I thought it was obvious I was taking the piss.

Edit: sorry forgot to put this :-)

Pitiful post. He's actually a well-respected politician with support right across GM.

Out of interest, who would be your choice as GM Mayor?
Didn’t the electorate of Manchester actually vote No in the first place, when asked if we wanted a Mayor to run our City? I’m sure we did.

Yes, and the City of Manchester does not have an executive Mayor. Burnham is Mayor of Greater Manchester, and only deals with stuff done county-wide. He is not responsible for, say, park benches in Platt Fields.

The Treasury would have questions about a council (or mayor) borrowing money to build a new stadium with no guarantee of getting the money back.
That would never be allowed to happen, there are too many checks and balances to avoid money being poured into a football stadium with a promise of repaying the money..................maybe!!

The article is misleading, U.S states and cities have an entirely different revenue base. US sports franchises can get competing cities to bend over to their outlandish demands in a way that's not applicable in the UK.

When it comes to infrastructure investment Manchester, like the rest of the north, has long been neglected by Whitehall. In the UK central government holds the purse strings and London and the South East have for decades got the lions share. Burnham will jump on any passing bandwagon if he can get funds for Manchester that otherwise would be spunked on the south, that's exactly what a Manchester Mayor should do and he should be applauded for it.

Having regional Mayors was a Tory idea. In Greater Manchester it was part of the Northern Powerhouse deal.

Ok here is a question for you.
Is the regeneration of the Trafford area dependent on the rags getting a new stadium ?

I'll answer my own question. No it's not. I am all for Burnham pushing which ever party is in power for funding of the houses and such like. The government, whether local or national should not be spending one penny to assist multi billionaire tax exiles get a new stadium which will simply make the multi billionaires richer.
