Andy Burnham | Manchester Mayor

It feels dirty agreeing with Liew, but he nails it there.

A labour government, backing a vanity project, for an expat tax exile billionaire, with absent US co-ownership milking millions in dividends, in Labour country, moving jobs out of Manchester to the benefit of scousers, with a scouse mayor sucking government cock for funding, whilst the "biggest club in the world ever" lays hundreds of Mancunians off, plunging some into poverty.

Makes Thatcher look like a fully paid up member of Salford Labour Club.

Rag or Blue, this stinks to high heaven.

Any project/programme is likely to be judged on the BCR like every other.

I know we are flooded with Lionel Hutz types, but there is already criteria, and it won't be hard to meet. There are obvious defences but none mentioned on this thread, so I will leave the Lionels and Walters to it, as they are quite amusing.

Great post though I think folk from St Helens would strongly object to being called Scousers!

When people explain that this isn't Labour, well in all honesty it is and always was.

Shades of the Tunnel Club.

Omar starting to implement his Etihad blue print on Old Trafford.

I've been corresponding with a Labout Trafford Councillor.
He states that categorically no tax payers money will be used for the new Circus tent.
Trafford rate payers will he helping towards 'the wharfside project' and it will span two decades.
If the project, new houses etc is going to take that long I can't see any new stadium in 5-7 years (the rag timeliness.)

Oh and I think he called it a new stadium but I new what he meant :-)

Graham Stringer Labour MP for Blackey and forner leader of Manchester City Council has called the whole scheme as half baked nonsense.

He feels the only way the new stadium gets built is with Government money. He warns to watch out for Ratcliffe coming with the begging bowl.

Not at first, but when the project is in danger of becoming a white elephant around the government's neck (to mix a couple of metaphors) see how quick Ratcliffe proposes some way of continuing ....

This is political shithousery, they will water it all down and it'll be sold as a "Cheaper" version that will end up costing more.

It's like the European Super League that nobody wanted but everyone eventually got :)

Not sure if mentioned but I read an article over the weekend which says the ECB are planning on building the UK's first ever indoor cricket stadium using some funds raised from TheHundred sell off ... It'll be used for showpiece events, international test matches & concerts...

Apparently next door to the world's best Butlins as part of the big re-development is the favoured destination.... Although quite where they'd fit it with all the houses and apartments planned is anyone's guess.

The focus should be on who buys and pays for the freight land, its remediation and the cost of the 'supporting infrastructure', including rail/metro, which will create commercial benefits for the rags !!

The principals have all said "no tax payers £s on the stadium" but that's only one part of this stunt.

The land on which the stadium is to be built has to be purchased by the rags and 106 agreements, overages & profitshares must be established for infrastructure developments that benefit the rags.

The slippery bastards, ratbag, burn'em, gargoyle 1, coeburg, etc will pull any & every stroke and they must be stopped in their tracks before any momentum is established !!

Can't they add another 9 agreements to that 106?

There does seem to be a head of steam building around opposition to this. A lot of the assumptions around this being challenged now.

"Supporters of the project believe it will bring significant economic benefits to the region and serve as a landmark comparable to the Eiffel Tower."

More like the Trifle Tower!

Scruffy Jim’s delegates have made some outlandish claims of jobs & revenue that should be investigated & once analysis is completed it can’t possibly be approved.
