Or is the player in breach of their contract by being unavailable for selection for reasons other than injury?
I should imagine that every footy contract now has sufficient inclusion of decent behaviour and not bringing the club into disrepute. The general term, gross misconduct, I think would cover this. But once a club has shelled out some millions for a player they might be loathe to lose the 'investment'. Suspect that Carroll has come from the local yobbos.
Mutu was ditched by Chelsea and had to pay them 17.2m Euros compensation. He tried to dispute their claim for compensation and took this to three appeals, the last one was refused.
He is serving another drug related ban in Italy and this ruling is going to bankrupt him.
Marlon King was ditched by Wigan after his sexual assault and abh conviction -he hasn't appealed against the decision. Don't know if they went after him for compensation - can't find anything about it if they did.
Gordon Taylor, the chief executive of the PFA, said that the PFA did not represent players when they have broken the law and been convicted on non-footballing matters.

-- Mon Oct 18, 2010 3:32 pm --

She's nothing to write home about. Considering she's been made up and photographed to show her best side - I don't rate her at all.
