Andy Hinchcliffe

UK broadcasters nick every idea they have from American sports. Generally they’re improvements but they started copying the idea of a co-commentator probably around about the late 80s/ early 90s. The trouble it seems they’ve never really bothered to study exactly what the US co-comms guy brings to the party. Some of the NFL ex players are incredible. They’re calling fouls within a second of them being committed. Before any normal fan could ever see them. The UK just seemed to have assumed two must be better than one and have the ex pro monotonously repeating what the first guy has just said. Or coming out with a never ending stream of gems like… Should have done better there.
I'm an NFL fan and Tony Romo is amazing at calling plays before they happen. Being an ex quarterback helps but the way he calls them is easy to understand and he does it with so much enthusiasm it's hard not to like him

He obviously loves his job and the game and shows absolutely no bias.

Compare him to Ratboy, the chin or Spitboy and the difference is as clear as day

To be fair, both Shearer (ok, bit biased) & Defoe (Ex Sunderland so no bias) both thought it was a penalty on MOTD as well
And to be fair, I suppose they thought Trippier's attempted decapitation on Kev was just a yellow. I wonder how many thinking tackles like those are ok will feel when someone is seriously injured, or is it only open season on City players.

Hes the perfect fit for the city hating media. A City fan (So they can say they have City representation) and hates us. It gives the perfect tone on his commentary, slightly depressed is what the'yre after and with Hinchcliffe thats what they get.

I hate the guy, I wont watch it with him on it if possible. I will get a stream going instead. He says good things about City like he does with all teams (Like all pundits HAVE to) but its the emotion that gives them away. Can easily tell who is emotionally invested against us. Its in the reactions to our goals, red cards, etc. I have lost count of the number of pundits who argue "it wasnt a red" against us.

Why Sky TV are like this I dont know, but there's a whole generation of new blue football fans they could tap into, instead they want to keep the history fans on board. But football is changing and like utd they will be left behind.

I’ve said it before, saw him in a car park in Wilmslow when my little lad was 3 and had his City top on, was waiting to pay for ticket behind him, when he’d paid as he was facing us about 3 feet away (2 feet allowing for his nice) I said to my little lad “this gentleman used to play for City”, the ignorant **** completely blanked us, lovely behaviour towards a 3 year old.
What a wanker he is.

I'll give anyone a chance but he really does always seem strangely biased against us. Yes he's miserable and critical in general but he seems to get genuinely fired up when criticising our players, tackles etc, or celebrating goals against us. Even stranger when you consider he is meant to usually be on as an ex-city player

I’ve posted this before (sorry) but there’s a saying that commentators should tell you WHAT happened and pundits/analysts should tell you WHY it happened.

Football analysis on television in the dark ages on that front

But the rea truth is that’s not why analysts are employed - it’s to create a storyline and a narrative
