Having stumbled upon this 2008 piece purely by accident I felt compelled to bring it to the attention of fellow Blue-Mooners. I didn't think my respect for this giant of our not so distant past could be any greater. However, this account of Andy's life describes personal traumas of the kind that would destroy most ordinary people. That he has overcome them all (including a sexual assault not mentioned in this piece) is testament to his enormous strength of character. As a footnote, it's also worth reading for Andy's account of Joe Royle's response when he was at his lowest ebb as a City player.

 
Thanks for that Pete. He was a colossus for us. In a period when, let's be honest, we were pretty shite*. And he had it tough growing up. All respect to the fella. And he always speaks well of us, even now. Another player not from the area that we've gotten into the bloodstream of.


*Which, I fully understand, may be difficult for younger BMers to grasp. But trust me on the sunscreen, we haven't always had players like Aguero, Kompany, Silva (David and Bernie), Zabba, Hart, Haaland, De Bruyne, Dias, Ederson, Rodri etc etc in the team.
 
Even now that side of Royles is my favourite City side ever, and I saw Bell , Lee and Summerbee. With the arrival of Morrison a sense of belief and purpose flooded through the side and a side of journeymen surged to two promotions. I have never known a time when the fans and players were closer. He seemed to give the whole side a boost and the Goat was a man transformed. He really got the club and fans and seemed almost a living representation of us all, been through so much shit but never a backward step. We owe as much to Andy Morrison as to Augero or De Bruyne a huge piece of our history.Good luck to the lad.

never will ever forget his Tonge going down Stan Collymore throat ? you knew not to mess with the BIG man,
the single reason why Manchester city got promoted and the big turn around, It's what we had needed for a long time, a strong Captain to steer the ship and call it as he sees it,

if only we had picked him up 2 or 3 years earlier, than maybe we could have not gone through the ringer ?

Outstanding captain and man , he was a huge part of the rebuilding of the club and just as important as the superstars we are now privileged to watch.

I'm going to pick it up. Just searched for it on Google Books as I figured an audiobook narrated by the big fella himself would be brilliant but alas, not to be :(
 
Can anyone come up with anyone that has had a bigger impact on our club in such a short space of time - he was literally a man mountain physically and mentally?

Did he ever lose a header - if he did I never saw it?

Always remember how he handled David Johnson in that Ipswich game at home (the Weaver one) - really quick, skillful and dangerous forward who scored a shit load of goals that season. Morrison kept dropping him on the halfway line and never once let him turn with the ball.

Johnson had gone off injured / to be protected by half time if I remember correctly.

Absolutely adore Morrison - one of my all-time heroes (yes I have quite a few but he is way up the list)..............
