Andy Morrison - The Scotsman article

Its amazing that after only 30 odd appearances not only do the fans hold
Him in such high regard, but hes has so much love for the club too.

I cant think of another city player that this has occurred.

Hope I'm not missing someone obvious, but the closest comparable figure who comes to my mind is Gerry Gow. He played 26 league games for us, IIRC, and 36 matches in all competitions, but became a genuine cult hero. He maintained less of relationship with the club after leaving than Morrison did, but I encountered him in the late 1990s and there was no doubt that he still loved the club while the fans at the function I attended made clear that they still loved him.

Yes thats a good shout. I guess they are of similar ilk! They turned up and gave their all!
Gow similarly dragged us along a bit. Just not to the extent of morrison

I think a lot of fans just want the players to play like we would, to run through brick walls for the shirt.
It's not always practical, unfortunately. But yes; it does get the heart racing to see someone giving their all out on the pitch. We can forgive players for not being Messi-like in their skillset, if we feel that they've given their all. Andy always did. No way was he another Kompany, but we loved him. The same could be said for Goater. The term "cult hero" was dreamt up for players like them.

Yep. David silva, for example, didnt have to run through brick walls, he could pass through them

Thanks for that Pete. He was a colossus for us. In a period when, let's be honest, we were pretty shite*. And he had it tough growing up. All respect to the fella. And he always speaks well of us, even now. Another player not from the area that we've gotten into the bloodstream of.

*Which, I fully understand, may be difficult for younger BMers to grasp. But trust me on the sunscreen, we haven't always had players like Aguero, Kompany, Silva (David and Bernie), Zabba, Hart, Haaland, De Bruyne, Dias, Ederson, Rodri etc etc in the team.
Come, come. You’ve forgotten we had giants like Silkman, Conlon, Creany, buster Philipps, and many more.
