I was thinking only last weekend to give Andy a ring to see how he was doing and arrange going out for a pint with him. I've only met him about half a dozen times or so but i feel like i knew him better than i did because he was open and easy to talk to. We had spoken several hours on the phone since him going home and he was always cheery, especially in the face of the adversity he was facing.
He was in quite a bad way in hospital but he didn't complain, he just made light of his predicament and we had a laugh. First time I went it was dinnertime and the nurse brought his usual 3 course dinner which smelt really good. Took him a while to eat as his left shoulder (iirc) was out of use. He had soup, meatloaf potatoes and veg and apple pie and custard which was of a much higher standard than the usual NHS fodder you get, him being in a Bupa hospital.
After he'd finished eating he said the meatloaf was delicious and asked me if i was hungry. I said I was. He quipped - "you should have said, I would have asked the nurse if there were and going spare"! Lol. Cheers mate: )
I'm hoping to attend his funeral to pay my respects and perhaps catch up with a few blues off here who knew him. I think it would be a good idea to get a BM meet up together and have a drink in Andy's memory. I'm still shocked he's gone tbh.
