With amazing timing, Angela Rayner has paid a £40K tax bill - but it doesn't mean she didn't deliberately avoid paying what she owed in tax.
Her actions clearly show she did it deliberately.
Also, it's not like she, or her accountant, was ever in discussions with HMRC to decide what she actually owed in tax (like many) - she wasn't.
Considering her historical comments on tax avoidance and "Tory Sleaze".Rsyner is a pure hypocrite
She must think the public are thick if she thinks they will forgive her - or even cut her some slack.
The public don't like hypocrites, so she is badly damaged by this and Labour MPs and party members would be mad to even consider her as Labour Party leader.

She has been cleared by the HMRC of any intentional wrong doing and wasn't fined, not sure how that relates to the above unless I have got it wrong.

we will see how hypocritical she is if she wins her stated position is a general election must be called for a leader with no mandate.

It hangs around as a bad-smell in the usual media outlets despite her being cleared of any wrongdoing.
Now that the investigation has begun into the £5m gift received by Nigel Farage (but not yet the investigations in to the allegations made by Nicholas Wilson such as donations by sham companies and money laundering), I wonder if those usual media outlets will be as keen to keep those fires burning.

Do you work for either her or HMRC?

A certain media continues with the slur ' Rayner claims to have been cleared'

Just the fact that she's an MP shows how far the country has fallen.
Whether the Labour supporters like it or not, Rayner is just not electable as a Prime Minister.

Aside from her idealistic views which she is entitled to have, her attitude and approach would mean she (and the United Kingdom) would not last five minutes at any top table discussion. She, quite correctly, would not be taken seriously..... but if Labour want her in they will get her in, despite the warnings that have been shot across their bows in Wales, Scotland and the local council elections.

She wasn't cleared of wrong doing - only of deliberably trying to avoid tax. She didnt pay Stamp duty - the tax she owed - nor would she if sue hadnt been caught out-by a journalist. Contrary to what many think HMRC are fairly forgiving if tax is paid after the fact - indeed trying to apply a fine costs more money than it costs to collect unless the tax avoided is a hefty sum. So HMRC don't do it.
She is very definately a hypocrite.

Well she hasn't.
The Inland Revenue got their tax payment, so they won't apply a fine, as that costs more money to apply than the amount collected.
So they won't go further.
It doesn't mean Rayner didn't knowingly not pay it. She didn't pay it and anyone who buys a property knows they have to pay Stamp Duty and a higher rate of Stamp duty if you buy a 2nd property. Also, as an aside, she really isn't fit to be PM if she didn't know this.
