Angela Rayner

Her brand is she grew up dirt poor, left school with no qualifications and pregnant, dragged herself up and got on in life - supported by the state. Not an uninspiring story and one she often uses to highlight she is one of us.

Then buys a £800k house and forgets to pay tax. Not really the image she likes to portray. So yes it damages her brand whether or not you like the word.
If you wanna focus on how much her house cost then you're part of the problem.
My Ma had 5 kids and we lived on a council estate. After grafting her arse off for years doing shit jobs and night school. Smoke and drank as well. Years later she bought a flat in London for ten times what it would cost up North. She was still the same person politically and always stood up for those she 'left behind'.

Do you really think that someone who's only meaningful employment was working in a care home has the credentials to be an MP and possibly Prime Minister!
You do realise that politicians are public service employees who are democratically elected to serve their constituents?

There are questions around her judgement and honesty when it comes to her financial affairs, but like her or not, she is more representative of a vast majority of her constituents than any Etonian twat could ever be.

Exactly - the non-payment of tax on the additi property was a huge oversight/misunderstanding which worked against her as she has been very vocal around grubby financial transactions from other party MP's.

However, I am probably more aligned to Rayner and someone like Jess Phillips than I am of any of the politicians across the spectrum at present.

In terms of Labour, is she more relatable/likeable than Starmer, Streeting and Burnham?

By a country mile for me............

I find it bloody weird that large sections of our society are so judgemental towards a working-class woman made good. Have we not had enough of pampered charlatans? Is it against the rules for a single mum to rise?
Some of the comments sections are utterly vile about her - 'slag, disgusting, and common-as-muck' slurs are commonplace and reflect very badly on the nation.

Also, isn’t she what Tories tell us all we can do? I.e. work hard and you’ll make it to the top?

Yes, and they also tell you to get on your bike and look for work, but the bike is not a metaphor for a boat, clearly, even though the bike is a metaphor for a boat if you can become an ex-pat, which you cannot if you arrive but you can if you leave.

Great to see all the political experts and misogynists on here; not that one of them would ever stand. Oh no. But they're still experts all the same.

As far as I'm concerned that sort of politician died out long ago. Destroyed by a news media that is run by the rich. And They don't want any uppityness from the working classes. They don't want us to have a leader.

The pricks who swallow that news media propaganda are just turkeys and they don't even realise it.

If you can get your head round a tax law that says you own a house that you don't actually own (because it's in trust for a disabled child) and therefore need to pay stamp duty on a property that you were advised was exempt because it was your sole residence, well done. Had she waited till her son was 18 (a few months if I recall) she would have had no liability for the stamp duty.

Didn't the OP know all that?

Not defending anyone simply saying You claim to know for certain she deliberately didn’t pay tax but have no proof to back up your assertion.
Well HMRC won't say - because they are legally prevented from releasing details of the case.
All they care about is the due tax was paid. They got the tax owed. I note Rayner has not provided details on whether interest was paId.
Applying a fine only occurs for tax evasion. And that costs money and £40k isn't worth the grief of taking it forward.
She can onlu get off If she publishes all the correspondence between her and HMRC to show she is totally in the clear ( and she can do this so long as HMRC employee names are redacted.)
Even then if she doesn't know you pay more Stamp duty on a 2nd home than on the 1st then she isn't competent to be a Minister, let alone Prime Minister.
More to the point she is a hypocrite for castigating anyone who is in discussions with HMRC about the amount of tax they have to pay - when the cases haven't been resolved. At least they are actually trying to pay the correct amount of tax they owe.

She can be very proud of herself in what she has achieved
I 100% agree with that statement but that not give her an automatic right to punch above her weight and win the fights.

It's all about realising your limitations and moreover accepting them. Her limitations are clearly illustrated by the problem she created faced with HMRC.

The tax is the bigger issue and it doesn’t matter a single jot that it was believed to be an honest mistake. It will follow her around like a bad smell.

Doesn't matter who who gets it. They'll be hounded out by the social media crowd, bots and racist old cunts soon enough.

Absolutely fucked in a country where your average folk can't make their own decisions and have either lost the ability to critically think or never had it.

She was found not to have broken any law. You need to get over it

Seems to not hinder Farage and lots of the Tory shitstains who are on another level altogether with the stunts they've pulled regarding tax and money swindling.
