Angela Rayner

The Daily Mail today calls Rayner, 'Angry Ginge.' Andrew Pierce tells his readers that 'Labour Insiders' told him 'You don't want her making decisions at 3am', and goes on to speak of her love of a night out.
There's another asking for proof from HMRC.

This is the reality about what a working-class, single-mum has to face from a media desperate to protect the elites. It is, for me, a shameful display of 'Britishness' and our fake notions of fair-play.
She’s just bought a £800,000 second home. Yes she has a working class background and was a single mother at aged 16 many years ago, but she’s being criticised as all we’ve heard from her for years was for the wealthy to pay more tax.

The Mirror, the left wing version of the same gutter press the Mail represents, are running story after story on Farage’s £5million gift. It’s just both sides chucking shit at each other as per usual.

By the way I think both of these financial affairs should have finished off each individual’s political career but I don’t think most of the public gives a shit at this moment in time.

All true, but she has been cleared and he has not.
For more allegations against Farage and Reform, upon which the mainstream media has been completely silent, check out @NW_Nicholas - he's the whistleblower who uncovered the nation's biggest banking scandal (HSBC).

I would put money on Farage being cleared. The KC who represented Rayner demanded a quick resolution and that she’d be cleared and they did within 24 hours. It’s rules for thee and not for me.

Farage will get a slap on the wrist and be able to carry on at best. It wouldn’t surprise me if he completely gets off.

The real crap thing is if people still in the same situation Rayner was in many years, did the same, they’d get the book thrown at them.

Well HMRC won't say - because they are legally prevented from releasing details of the case.
All they care about is the due tax was paid. They got the tax owed. I note Rayner has not provided details on whether interest was paId.
Applying a fine only occurs for tax evasion. And that costs money and £40k isn't worth the grief of taking it forward.
She can onlu get off If she publishes all the correspondence between her and HMRC to show she is totally in the clear ( and she can do this so long as HMRC employee names are redacted.)
Even then if she doesn't know you pay more Stamp duty on a 2nd home than on the 1st then she isn't competent to be a Minister, let alone Prime Minister.
More to the point she is a hypocrite for castigating anyone who is in discussions with HMRC about the amount of tax they have to pay - when the cases haven't been resolved. At least they are actually trying to pay the correct amount of tax they owe.
Do you think Starmer is fit to be PM or even a minister?

Quite possibly.
Like us, and the fury devoted to us by others, we rightly employ the best lawyers to fight our case because we have the money to do so.
Assuming what is now out there to be true, she is not guilty.

I’ve no problem with Rayner defending herself with the best legal counsel she can, it’s the logical thing to do if you’re innocent or not, I just find it odd that the demand was made and then all resolved within 24 hours.

Looking at the case in detail, I think she’s been wilfully ignorant. She likely knew if she looked into it further, as advised, she’d discover she owed more and what’s she’s essentially done is refuse to look so she can plead ignorance if caught.

I bet she regrets it now as it’s tarnished her.

As much as Starmer's Tory-lite reign included her at the start, always had time for Rayner, think the witch hunt against her was comical, and to compare her situation with HMRC with Farage, is like comparing apples and melons.
Can’t really call it a witch hunt when this is par for the course when a senior politician doesn’t pay their taxes, especially given what her views on tax are.

The situation with Farage is different, the sums involved with him are record breaking and beyond all prior examples, not even close to Rayner’s, but then she’s avoided/evaded/ignored/mistakenly not paid tax she actually owes, rather than it being a sum given to her she needs to declare as a donation.

It should finish both of them off with regards to holding any senior positions but it won’t.

I think there is much to admire in her, and I think much of the disdain for her is unquestionably rooted in snobbery.

Don’t think she’s quite PM material though. Not smart enough, although that doesn’t mean she’s stupid as she plainly isn’t.
Snobbery? That's pretty mild for you. You okay?!?

I'd say misogyny and Northernism myself.

That said, I do have this almighty Northern chip on my shoulder, which I carry around at all times...and which I am rather proud of tbh.

You're 100% correct tbh.

(As an aside, I hope you're not in one of the wards that elected the nutters in Sunny Salford)

Personally speaking calling someone a snob is a pretty severe insult. I pull people up for it quite a bit tbf.

I too like being a northerner, hence my ‘location’ under my username here. I would say my northern accent gets more pronounced when I’m round posh London folk. Don’t do it consciously but I definitely want to distinguish myself from them, so I guess we are on the same page to sonme extent!

Yes I did.
She is guilty of not paying tax.
She paid interest on the amount owing.
It's irrelevant as to whether she was fined by HMRC or not.
She did what she decrys orhers for - i.e. Not paying tax.
So she is a hypocrite
She thus has zero chance of winning an General Election as leader of the Labour Party.
Which completely honest party leader are you expecting to win?

I don't think you have to be extremely clever to be PM, you just need to be clever enough to surround yourself with other people who are.
Political nous and a decent moral outlook is more important imho.

I think that’s fair, but I think you need to be smarter that I think Rayner is. Starmer is definitely smart enough even though he lacks other qualities. Burnham would be too.

Truss definitely wasn’t notwithstanding her Oxbridge ‘credentials’. May, Sunak and Johnson were so it’s not an especially high bar, but there is definitely a level of intelligence required to run the country that I don’t think Rayner has, although I’d be happy for her to prove me wrong as I like her.

The sarcasm is strong in this,, oh your being serious.

Duplicitous?

About 10 years ago hmrc sent me a £7k bill for tax that they said i owed. It never made sense to me , just could not see where this tax was supposedly owed from so i disputed it.

That started approx 6 months of hell as they aggressively hounded me for it. I got advised to “just pay it, get em off your back”.
But i just couldnt work out where i owed it from so dug my heals in.
The calls, letters, visits made me have panic attacks and probably a mini break down and being a bloke i kept it to my self. It was a fuckin awful way they went about chasing me.
I eventually told my accountant. She took it on and a month later i got a call off her.
“They made a mistake, you owe nothing and they actually owe you £200!!”

They made my life hell for a relative paltry £7k and took 18 months to send me a cheque for £200
