I'm amazed that people are surprised by tax bills.

I've worked for myself for 12 months and just use Xero to manage my accounts and have different pots in my bank account for tax, VAT etc.

It's a piece of piss and I'm new to it.

And while I'm at it - I've just paid a VAT bill for a good few thousands of pounds.

Instead of looking at how much I've just paid, I've seen how much I've saved on buying shit that of course absolutely necessary and exclusively used for business purposes.

Mrs was on to them yesterday about not recieving our usual reminder ( she pays our taxes...) and we now dont need one. On a brighter note, because post covid and during lock down our tax bill was higher than normal and 50% gets carried forward to next year ( this year ) we are quite a bit credit, more so than usual so HMRC took our credit as payment.....Very small tax bill this year and we didn't realise it. Wooopee do, thank you HMRC.
