From the most underrated player at the club Barry, he did a tonne today helping us in all quarters if the field. as a team we just play better with him in the side. Credit where credit is due!

I fully expect this post to get bombarded with comments about how old and slow he is and how he should be dropped. In advance I respectfully disagree

He was quality. He will be much needed on ECL away legs.

Was it just me or did he look slightly less slow tonight?

-- Mon Aug 15, 2011 11:36 pm --

He was quality. He will be much needed on ECL away legs.

completely agree, i have always said it much of his work goes unnoticed and nobody can push him off the ball when that fat ass is in the way

His passing and workrate is outstanding

We're at our best when we start to pass the ball. And he's at the heart of that

Barry was quality today, he was quality last season, and he'll surely be quality this season.

Barry is a class act. I don't understand the people on here who slate him. I would have him over Milner any day. I think he is effective at what he does.

Pisses me off that everyone claps Nigel when he plays a 5 yard ball back to Vinnie or Lescott when Barry could bring the ball down and play a 50 yard crossfield pass with absolutely fuck all recognition.

People just don't seem to like him on here. He's never in anyone's ideal line-up, yet Mancini picks him every week.

Going to be a very important player for us this season.... again. Only this.

Whenever we have a thread about Barry I am always on it saying how that if he plays well then the team plays well. I may be one of his biggest fans but I actually thought he was a bit lacklustre tonight.

Barry did well tonight but it's the small things he does that not many people notice. His control of the ball is brilliant and his passing percentage is usually very high, he also breaks up the play very well getting stuck in when he needs to. He's a very intelligent player who doesn't need alot of pace to be effective. Was very unlucky not to score tonight from that well hit volley.

lad behind me spent most of the match slagging him off....wouldnt mind he's only a young lad too, you would have thought he'd have more optimism

spot on mate; he shields the back 4, makes tackles, reads the games, brings the ball out, generally completes his passes, why the fuck so many cnuts on here slag him off staggers me - it's a good job he can read a game better than they can

good post from the op

certainly at wembley last week i said to my mate in the first half we were missing him and that milner cannot play the role therefore leaving de jong exposed

well done gareth lad last night, keep up your excellent form, nearly all your work goes un noticed but is vital to our game

i asked my lads last night were the hell would nasri get in lol

I would disagree, too. Barry has played all his football in the shadow of more spectacular performers, but every team needs the effort, diligence and sheer nounce that Gareth Barry brings to the team. The only time he gets noticed is when he was taking a pen for Villa or when he hit the bar last night, and I must admit it was only on the highlights at the end that I realised that it was Barry who did hit the bar! If Nasri or Sneijder join, they might provide something that Gareth Barry doesn't, but neither will deliver what Barry does! We need to have twelve on the pitch!
