Another great but unheralded performance

I am shocked at this thread, last night he was backing off far too much and he is lucky de jong got injured because i think he would have been the one coming off. Yes he had a couple of shots but in general he was poor, the pressure on swansea simply wasn't there when they had the ball.

What Barry does well is remains focused. Its no accident that people who know the game rate him so highly. He is the outlet from defending to attack. He isnt a cross between defender/midfield player like Nige, he isnt a cross between midfielder/attacker Like ya ya, He is a midfield player. Dependable, adaptable with vision and awareness of where he needs to be and when.

i'm one of his biggest advocates, but he had a shit first half and an excellent second half.

I even made a thread saying he'd still be important this season

He's been under appreciated for a while now. He get's on with his job so well, it allows others to do theirs. Very annoying when he gets slated by City fans.

He doesn't get credit because a lot of the time it's not so obvious what he's doing, you don't see him making last ditch tackles, or sprinting 20 yards to close down the ball a lot of the time, because his understanding and awareness of the game is so good he's always in the right position so doesn't have too.

Massively important player for us. Looks like he could have a few goals in him this season too....

Just like 'talkativesprout' above.

I really do despair when I read comments like his.

I guess some will just never understand the role of a Defensive Midfielder, even though nearly every successful team has had one.

Ask Mourinho who his first signing was at Chelsea and why.
