Another new Brexit thread

My bet is the fish negotiations end at an agreed 30% with a 6 year transition. It will be presented as a massive victory for the UK of course. As we already appear to agreed to the LPF with independent arbitration and tariffs if we (or they) diverge it seems a deal will be done in time for Christmas.

Now that the gap is just 5% it’s inconceivable there won’t be a deal.

i don’t see it as a cave in. I see it as a good compromise. We are leaving the single market, customs union, making trade deals, ending freedom of movement and lots of other things that in 2016 didn’t seem possible.

I have mentioned this before but in my opinion most brexit voters will be happy. Pretty much the cleanest type of brexit we could hope for.
 
According to Spanish media to avoid border controls, Spain, Gibraltar and the UK are putting the border area under the full control of Frontex so that concerns over Guardia Civil messing around are assuaged.

First internal border under direct EU control. Brexit is proving to be quite the catalyst for shaping the EU into a semi federal state.

If only there was a precedent that they could have learned from, maybe he wouldn’t have sanctioned exporting rice to the rest of the empire causing local inflation of food prices.

Hi mate, myself and Saddleworth moved it over to the Churchill thread, as it wasn’t Brexit related but for some reason the mods have deleted it, not sure why as we were agreeing in the most part.

I don’t disagree with you, just merely pointed out the claim he was directly at fault is exaggerated.

Anyway, think we better move on as it’s not related to this thread.

‘France is demanding PCR tests on lorry drivers attempting to cross-Channel. UK resisting amid concerns PCR tests will lead to delays & see lorry drivers prioritised over care home staff. It wants lateral flow tests, but ministers concede they may have to give in to French demands’

I'd be delighted but then I support our exporters rather than a vague and pointless claim to "our" waters that hurts our neighbours and really will not revive our fleet (unless we just take over Dutch supertrawlers and crews and sell "our" herring back to the Dutch).

Seems strangely appropriate that the whole Brexit fiasco is culminating in an argument about the price of fish.

One man's good compromise is another man's viable walk away option disappearing up his arse.

So, let’s take stock of progress to date.

Losses: Northern Ireland, Gibraltar, freedom of movement for UK nationals and higher trade barriers with Europe.

Gains: Blue passports, a bit more fish, lots of lorry parks.

Spot on - seems a bit churlish to call it a cave in

We have now secured a genuine Brexit - way beyond what you and I would have thought possible in 2016 - and indeed totally beyond wildest hopes during the May era of 2017-2018

If describing as a 'cave-in' is supposed to make Leave supporters feel disappointed - it is not going to do the job
