I think they’ve pretty much gone from society other than a few tinternet squabbles.

Nobody I know has mentioned Brexit since the election.
I think Brexit is probably just one front in a wider cultural war, but that’s a discussion for another thread and another time!

It is but it’s consigned to the Internet and the odd talk show.

90% of the public couldn’t care less I don’t think.

Let’s just pluck an example out... Lawrence Fox, I mentioned him in a group chat and nobody knew who he was.

I think we, on this forum, and those on Twitter, think we’re on the pulse of the nation, when in reality people are just thinking about work, going to the pub (when they’re open) or whether they need dog food from the shop.

Sad at what we’re losing, but obviously glad a deal was done, given the alternative. Would be more relieved if I thought the arguments (on here particularly, but in society generally) actually were over, but I suspect they’ll linger for some time yet.
Think it will depend entirely on the real life practicalities. If most of us see little difference to our jobs, lives, then it will slowly fade into the background.Things like Erasumus seem a completley pointless disruption of young peoples lives.
Lets hope little happens to change too much, but I have doubts. Like you though , there is sadness at the things we have lost.

Utter bollocks

I don’t own a dog

It’s the Royal Navy I feel sorry for (lol)

Four of the River class OPVs are due to sail from Portsmouth tomorrow

HMS Trent: Ten in the AM
HMS Tyne: Two in the PM
HMS Mersey: Two twenty in the PM
HMS Tamar: Three thirty in the PM

Jonathon Powell (Blair Chief of Staff) for his take...

tl:dr We lost.

5 reasons the UK failed in Brexit talks‘

That's pretty accurate, imho. The EU did all the hevy lifting in the negotiations (thank fuck) to get us where we are.

The UK negotators were abysmal, but without any political direction from the blond bimbo they were always on a hiding to nothing. The UK stance on fishing in particular, will be taught in universities in years to come as a shining example of how not to negotiate.

Thankfully von der Leyen had the wits to call Johnson every day over the last few days and lead him by the nose to get a deal done.

Good chance to stretch their legs

Act stubborn, get your worth.

That poor waitress when she asked if he would like a Latte

LATTE? Bloody LATTE?

I will have a cup of tea thank you, and proppa tea none of that darjingy shite love.
In the spirit of pretending it's an honourable score draw....

We had a coach trip day out to Oxford and on arrival my mate, MA Oxon, who I assumed was fairly sophisticated, took us to a basement cafe under a gents' outfitter. I don't think they had the choice of coffee in those days (80s) but they had the full range of Twining's teas - Earl Grey, lapsang, Assam, etc - so when they asked him what tea he wanted he said "whatever's closest to Typhoo".

Even remainers must think thank fuck it’s over and thank fuck we have a deal. Surely?
I know it’s not optimum as you obvs wanted to remain but leaving with a deal has to be the best outcome given the division in society this horrible referendum caused.

the eu unanimously approved it and it got a healthy vote in parliament so it must be fair to both sides. Let’s hope so.

I’m happy this stage is over. I don’t think the divisions are going to heal any time soon though, nor the discussions around our relationship and the agreement in place with the EU. It’s just onto the next phase, the big difference is we’ll now have the actualities playing out rather than people from either side predicting it.

The thread now seems to be full of Leavers saying they're happy it's done, and how nobody they know is talking about it, but staying around and still moaning about those who think it's shit. They could just bog off and come back when they can see some tangible benefit of Brexit.

I get it, for a lot of people they won’t feel a direct impact and may not for a while yet either and politically I completely get the feeling of release. For some though, this is already a bloody nightmare from an actual day to day working perspective.

Great explanation, I just wish everyone elsecould be this objective and not constantly see things in a one sided way through the lens of their own bias.

Ha - BBC radio 4: you can have your cake on divergence, but the EU will send you the bill.
