And we used to have as much say as any of them.

Although we can now pretend we have the freedom to do anything we want, if we don’t want an economic meltdown we’ll have to do as we’re told, only now we will not only take instructions from the EU, but from Japan, China and the US also.

What Merkel wants out of this end game - given her term coming to an end and with an eye on her legacy and Macron wants - with his full attention on elections in 2022 - will be quite different

Full control of our own demise. Its pathetic. We have zero choice but to do a deal - and the leavers will hate that deal just as they hate every other development once the full implications are understood. Idiotic from start to finish.

I always find the contempt with which Brexiteers view most countries of Europe rather fascinating. We are constantly berating these countries as not being truly independent or sovereign or even as puppets of the ’EU’. Spain and Italy are only fit for wiping France’s arse apparently.

Really think we need to change our diplomatic approach.

There’s a pecking order, France gets to wipe Germany’s, who then grant them first go’s at the rest.
