Another new Brexit thread

Coveney has felt the need to be in close contact with Paris recently.

Probably asking questions like - FFS, we agreed to be used as a weapon in negotiations - don't end up fucking us over

There is an increasing level of concern emanating from Dublin recently - not sure why? Surely the new direct ferry route has the capacity to deal with all this?
Looks like a long and expensive voyage to me. Maybe his brother is worried about his profit forecast.

Also - is this the mighty EU giving a slap to the French president for having the temerity to seek to look after France's interests as a sovereign nation?

EU chief urges members to stay united in Brexit talks | Money | Malay Mail

This comment:

"Some EU members — notably France and the Netherlands, whose boats fish in UK waters — are now concerned that Barnier and the European Commission will give too much ground in the final hours of talks."

Brought to mind a previously stated view that some posters have never been able to accept the truth of:

"We will not see movement from the EU unless and until they are faced with the prospect of a viable walk-away option – and the political will to use it”

Getting a bit harder to shoehorn that in but we are getting very close to finding out to what extent it is true. Last week you feared Johnson caving in which would be the opposite of the above

No.

Yes, I assumed the UK-Ireland thing was not an issue after seeing the giant new ferry and direct route?

Two year deal signed with Switzerland which includes provisions on mutual recognition including improved UK recognition of Swiss qualifications, and up to 12 mths per 2-yrs for Swiss service personnel to work in UK. We get in return...90 days-visa free for Brits in Switzerland.

Okay, not sure that is entirely fair :)

It is actually getting more relevant to reflect on that comment - and no shoe horning required as there are more and more frequent comments emerging from EU sources about concerns over the level of their compromises. I only mention it because a) some posters used to not be able to get their heads around the veracity of the comment and b) some posters seemingly 'remain' unable to get their heads around the veracity of the comment

Yes - I was (and I remain) concerned about Johnson caving in - but if you check my comments I think that I probably also mentioned my hope that largely legal text had been drafted and therefore the scope of the damage his weakness could do might be limited.

In Frost I largely trust

Anyway - the good news is almost confirmed - because no matter what level of backsliding could occur - the type of Brexit that we are going to get is far more a valid Brexit than seemed possible in 2017, 2018 or 2019

In the analysis this will be largely (and perversely) down to the actions and behaviours of some arch-Remainers.

I will certainly raise a glass to them
