Hungary will do what is in the best interests of Hungary. None of the countries being bandied about are doing anything other than voting for an extension. Poland has its citizens here to protect and they have already voiced concern at how a no deal Brexit effects them. We had all this nonsense last time round.

The same way the DUP are doing what's in the best interest of Northern Ireland?

Surely after the last 3 years, the idea that governments are quite capable of doing things against their citizens own best interests shouldn't be the most ridiculous notion you've ever heard.

I'm not even saying it will happen I just found it interesting enough to share

The EFTA itself does not seek to establish one, but allows it's members to join one if they so wish.

"Whilst the EFTA is not a customs union and member states have full rights to enter into bilateral third-country trade arrangements, it does have a coordinated trade policy. As a result, its member states have jointly concluded free trade agreements with the EU and a number of other countries."

"Art. 56.3 of the EFTA Convention states that a new EFTA member state ‘shall apply to become a party to the free trade agreements between the Member States on the one hand and third states, unions of states or international organisations on the other.’ As a member of a customs union, a country acceding to EFTA could not comply with this obligation. EFTA membership does not preclude from entering into a customs arrangement with the EU; existing EFTA countries govern their relation to the EU through different instruments."
I could have sworn you were pro EFTA but anti EEA.

We tried that. It’s called the Withdrawal Agreement. Brexiteers voted against it. Had their chance, so how to put this...oh yeah. Fuck ‘em.
So how about we just leave the EU on no deal and screw the GFA!

See how that sort of thinking is childish and helps nothing?

If you think your solution will placate the brexit at all costs fanatics there are a few test cases on here to try your theory on:),
It's intended to find a compromise.

"Fuck the other side of the debate" isn't a compromise, is it. As I have said time and time again, I am yet to see a workable compromise presented by the remainers who just think leavers should be disregarded.

I've see a few remainers on here agree with you they would take a Norway plus deal. In the end though we can be a bit more belligerent as we are just on a football forum on the internet what we agree or disagree on here has zero impact in the real world.

The DUP are doing what’s in the best interests of the DUP. Orban will do what’s best for Orban and keeping his nose firmly in the EU money trough is what’s best for him. There is zero in this for Orban to vote against an extension.

As I said we had this before with Orban and Poland purely because they are getting a bit of a kicking from the other EU countries as if somehow that makes them natural allies with us yet on Brexit their interests are in line with everyone else. Also voting against means throwing Ireland under a bus but what if next time it’s Poland or Hungary that require EU solidarity? What price solidarity if they sell Ireland out on this? And what do they get for selling out Ireland apart from 26 other countries mad at them? Johnson’s eternal thanks? Try taking that to the bank and cashing it.

I realise the temptation to descend into obduracy, but long term, it really isn’t going to help.

He has a point though. There are those who regard anything short of no deal as BRINO. There are those who regard anything short of revoking as an act of national self harm. Social cohesion is fucked either way. There is far more to be said for being socially riven but economically stable than socially riven, an international laughing stock and an economic basket case.

I disagree with you as I believe that the situation is retrievable via a soft Brexit and that the divisions are capable of repairing themselves (to a meaningful extent) via that route; so I don’t agree that social cohesion is irreparably fucked either way, and on that basis I believe that trying to bring our society together takes primacy over the economic damage that Brexit will inevitably bring, assuming that damage can be contained via a soft Brexit.

I could very well be wrong, of course.

You're probably right Bob, moreso I hope you are right.
I'm just saying it's worth keeping an eye on Hungary perhaps

Feels good though :)

Seriously no form of Brexit is going to be enough for these people. It will never be pure enough. Next it will be fining people who drive a Renault on the grounds of economic treason. Hum a few bars of an ABBA song and you will be arrested for cultural terrorism. I’m bored with their tantrums, their whining and the general shite that comes with these people and their unhinged obsession with the EU.

Fuck ‘em.

I don’t think the damage caused by brexit is wholly irreparable, merely very long term. My experience is that social cohesion, when damaged, repairs itself far more quickly in circumstances where the society in question is more prosperous

That’s a decent point, but the usual rules don’t necessarily apply to Brexit.

Anyone who posts as much as me and you on this thread could quite properly be characterised as having an unhinged obsession with the EU, Bob :-)

The biggest tragedy of all this is that the people who are going to be the worst affected by this, economically at least, are the leave voting working class and pensioners. I’m not sure even Ann Widdecombe telling everyone to eat coal will cheer them up much either......

I’d rather the leave voters had it worse than the Remain voters tbh. They’re responsible for this shit after all.
