Something I found incredibly interesting...

My Belfast born, Republican, Irish mate said to me tonight ‘you know those other cunts in Belfast’ (meaning unionists) ‘they think you’ve absolutely fucked them, do you know that?’.

I found it quite sobering, considering who this lad is.

You did.

I’d love to know where this “leak” came from...

they’re the lesser of a number of evils for me... basically less shit than the other parties...

I’ve said it before and now it’s maybe more appropriate.. we are a laughing stock at present

these “leaks” are going to ramp up over the coming weeks.. he said, she said....

So in twenty-five years the Tories have had a outright majority for two of those years in which time they launched a badly conceived referendum that saw an MP murdered during the campaign and the result of which has sharply divided the country. Triggered a two year negotiation phase with no plan or consensus, called a snap election that saw them lose their majority but carried on anyway and proceeded to butcher the negotiations to fulfil the referendum result leaving us with a bill to pay of £39 billion for the privilege of losing market access in Europe and ceded economic control of one of the home nations within our own Union.

And you think the other main party would have done a worse job? I mean how? I get that critical thinking is not the in thing these days but I didn’t realise Tory voters had dumbed down to the extent they would probably get outwitted by plant life.

Conservatives. Party of the working man....

The problem is that the political declaration reads as little better than a wish list.

Want to watch City in Europe?

.....
50. In this context, the Parties aim to provide, through their domestic laws, for visa-free travel for short-term visits. 51. The Parties agree to consider conditions for entry and stay for purposes such as research, study, training and youth exchanges. 52. The Parties also agree to consider addressing social security coordination in the light of future movement of persons. 53. In line with their applicable laws, the Parties will explore the possibility to facilitate the crossing of their respective borders for legitimate travel.

Not even facilitate the crossing .... just explore the possibility!

Out of context but still rather pertinent, here's Edward Carson (December 1921) saying what he thinks of the British government's treatment of Ulster. He mentioned how the PM got the newspapers singing the same chorus of support, then summed up how he felt.

"What a fool I was. I was only a puppet, and so was Ulster, and so was Ireland, in the political game that was to get the Conservative Party into power. And of all the men in my experience that I think are the most loathsome it is those who will sell their friends for the purpose of conciliating their enemies, and, perhaps, still worse, the men who climb up a ladder into power of which even I may have been part of a humble rung, and then, when they have got into power, kick the ladder away without any concern for the pain, or injury, or mischief, or damage that they do to those who have helped them to gain power."

And on getting an international treaty changed without proper consideration and consent this also seems apposite:

"...that is all put down, cut and dried, with the King's assent, without the country having the slightest opportunity of passing a verdict upon it, and without the terms being even examined in the way that we were accustomed in the old days to examine proposals of political Parties when they were brought forward."

Whilst we wait for our King across the sea to announce his decision on whether we Brexit or suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous externity, I was wondering if anyone actually liked the final terms (not you Arlene) of WA Mk II? The EU didn’t whistle for its money (yep Johnson again), did get 8 years of oversight on EU citizens and did avoid a land border in Ireland (yes I know Arlene it isn’t fair) by imposing a border within our own Union.

In return we got at least 3 years of transition which I understand our King across the water is looking forward to...or maybe he is just fishing in a sea of troubles. Who knows.

So do we actually like the deal so far and if so why?
And by opposing, end them.
