Ok, we get it. No bad news on jobs or investment could ever possibly be even slightly to do with Brexit.

its fuck all to do with brexit? Local authority puts out to tender a new contract for new trams.

a Japanese, a Spanish and swiss company bid for it and the Swiss company wins the contract presumably as it was the best bid for the contract?

what has it to do with brexit? British company awards a contract to a company also not based in the eu?

you do know British companies and the government have tenders every day and award all kinds of contracts to overseas companies . Have you seen the rather large contract we awarded to the Chinese today?

feel sorry for the local workforce who have lost out but it has absolutely fuck all to do with brexit.

what’s that got to do with brexit?

£300 odd million of govt money into the project. Brexit was all about creating an economy with high skill high paid jobs - 3 days before we leave we sell out to a foreign manufacturer. That wasn't what Johnson promised in the North East but hey ho that was a Johnson election promise over a Brexit election - another Johnson lie exposed.

Vote for us - we will export your high skilled high paid jobs...............maybe they were going to put that slogan on the side of a train?

Your Brexit wasn't one for British jobs and British workers then? Yours was one of the other 50 shades of Brexit?

no it wasn’t actually. It was about not being part of an over bloated unnecessary political system, but thanks for asking.

Think about links before you post them

And for the record Switzerland isn’t in the eu.

The caring voice of your typical "pro business" Labour supporter.

And people wonder why your party is unelectable. People just smell your hatred of successful people and it puts them right off.

I see we have switched from arguing the merits of the decision in favour of an ad hominem attack :)

Ahh, no response to this bit yet. Why am I not surprised. ;)

not part of the UK either which is why I refer to Johnsons promises in the EU ref and the 2019 GE of more investment and more high skilled high paid jobs in the North East as a thank you for the lone of North Eastern votes. He just forgot to add " of Switzerland " after North Est as thats where Thal is.

Don't you see? People were made promises upon which they voted and already one by one they are reneging be it high paid high skilled jobs or fucking bells at midnight.

I am sure Johnson hasn’t a clue about this, do you? Nor should he. I am sure the people who awarded the contract did so as it represented the best deal for the local taxpayer. Shame for the local employees but that’s globalisation for you.

I am sure you will maintain that positive Brexit attitude as jobs and investment ebb away to foreign countries and our indebted and degree'd up youth have to take jobs in Maccie Dee's and arsewiping at the old folks home because thats all there is. That clown from the Migration Advisory Committee today said we should employ more of our own youth in the care system and pay them much much more !!?? Three years building yourself up for a First and a career in law and you find yourself being taught to say " have a nice day ". As for paying more in the care system !! The govt already starves the local authority of funds so care workers get paid the bare minimum and no travel time and the Govt has no strategy to sort out paying for care....... we are fucked with thinking like that.

you seem to be making the case for brexit ?

I was merely pointing out that this decision has nothing to with brexit.

as I say it’s a shame for the local employees.

I am sure Johnson will feel the cold wind of revenge if it continues in the North East - Ben Houchen ( Con ) the Tees Valley Mayor and Simon Clarke MP ( Con ) are already all over local media saying its a disgrace - bit early to start panicking.

That’s what I said.

Vic, wind your neck in mate. I know your arse is still sore after the GE shambles, but really.
It is probably just his need to engage with you - it makes him make 2nd and 3rd hand bitchy comments about you.

I have one of those - no matter how he tries - just obsessed with me and cannot do without me it seems

Well the Tories have been in power for a decade and it’s clear for anyone to see, with any shred of political knowledge, that they are the new liberal party.

Windrush aside, which was a monumental cock up, they are just an extension of New Labour’s social policy.
Johnson has a strong enough position to do what the fuck he wants - and cannot be forced to stay in line with traditional Tory 'values'

The harder left Labour supporters should wake up and be proper worried. I absolutely see him taking action in the next few years to convince a lot of the traditional (but centrist) Labour voters (like me) that took a punt on him in December that they were right to do so - with a lot more from the 'Red Wall' constituencies following.

Especially if, as I expect, Labour entrench away from the centre with RLB.

Even with Starmer I cannot see what Labour can do about it if Johnson does make the moves that I expect - they have forgotten it seems the need to be in power to make changes that affect people and get you noticed. They have become dependent on their only chance of winning being public dissatisfaction with a (too) far-right Conservative Party alienating the centre-left ground which can be hoovered up - like Blair did - I cannot see that happening.

There are a lot of posters on here that are going to spend the next 10 years whinging on in their increasing frustration, impotence and isolation - I have not been a fan of Johnson - and I remain to be convinced - but I think that he and in particular his advisors, will not fail to see the easy opportunity in front of them.

Anyway that is more for the Conservative and/or Labour Party threads

A lot of bollocks is spouted by some on here because they have an hatred of Brexit - but, it seems, no grasp of the 'facts of life' to even themselves understand what drives that hatred - let alone explain it without embarrassing themselves.

Beyond the state-aid constraints there is the long-standing EU procurement regulations - yet we hear the ignorance of those on here that bleat on about non-UK companies winning UK government contracts. They repeatedly embarrass themselves.
