It’s a political discussion forum. Do you expect people to ignore it? And how can it be worse? Even using the minimum figures, it’s hard to make 40,000 deaths look anything other than catastrophic when every other country in the world bar the US has done better than us, and arguably they have as well based on rates per million. And they don’t even have a functioning central government.

My point being if it’s so bad why bother trying to make it look even worse?

Preposterous.

Nobody voted in any referendum or GE with a view to the result meaning they are on the right side rather than better off. That statement in itself shows the stupidity of your argument

That is the kind of response that makes people question if your a momentum member!

Bliar - I was a Labour Party member not New Labour - think I may be a year out with my @ memory gets hazy and I was going through a divorce at the time so I will say 93/94 ish?

Blair is the only reason labour have been in power for the last 30 yeArs
Your response makes me wonder whether you have taken leave of your senses..............I have no interest in momentum
you are clearly left of centre (to put it mildly) and you shout down comments like momentum do
Not saying you are a member
But it is easy to see why some may think that.

I’m more interested in the Blair hate

Wow - you know me better than me????????????

I really don’t know what you mean. What’s worse than having the worst pandemic response in the world?

Then why quote figures deliberately to make things look worse

And these are the cunts that we’re expecting to deliver a successful post-transition Brexit?

But your not expecting that and never have

The exact figures are still unclear, but in the scheme of things it’s not really important if some people are slightly exaggerating the numbers and others are lowballing them. Either way, it’s absolutely damning on the government. This is for another time and another thread though.

Who’s quoting figures to make it look worse? There’s the excess death figure from the ONS and the positive tested figure from the NHS. Both are valid and mean slightly different things. And both look absolutely terrible in comparison to equivalents from other countries.

You’re right, I expect fuck all from this government. I would like to expect success as far as Brexit is concerned, but their track record means it’s a hope rather than an expectation.

40k dead we are probably second worst in the world - 60k dead we are probably second worst in the world. Only a pedant argues over how many of their fellow citizens have died to make their country look bad.......

Chlorinated chicken is clean and safe to eat. US food standards practice is that every piece of chicken is washed before hand, in chlorine to eliminate salmonella. The chlorine is then washed off. This is for free range chickens or battery chickens. The issue isn't with food standards but with how the animals are treated before slaughter as the chlorine "washes away" any evidence of suspected malpractice.

You're arguing the wrong argument when you're associating nutrition information and chlorinated chicken.
'Chlorinated'

It is a word that sounds 'bad' - so it has been used for years to 'frighten the children'

Don't expect some of these posters to understand what it actually means as a process

The evidence is that to do a deal with the US you have to take it up the arse. There is no point being the biggest economy on the planet (just) and not fucking smaller countries up the arse.
Interesting POV - from someone that seems to be desperate to see the UK take it up the arse from the EU

And there’s others who seem perfectly willing to accept that people will be worse off, just to achieve their ideological goals. Which is equally pathetic, really.
Indeed - @BobKowalski for instance has been very clear about his commitment to EU federalism

At least he understands it and supports it - whilst others are just sleepwalking into it without any understanding of the destination and the consequences for the UK - which I agree is pathetic

Some of us have the good sense to resist that and support the best interests of the UK which can be best achieved with the UK becoming an independent nation that can continue to control its own economic and fiscal policies

Certainly - my own convictions are that the best way to ensure that people are not worse off is to get out of the EU and that to Remain would certainly lead to people being worse off. So I am not one of those that you refer to.

You know what they say about abusive relationships, also.

I don't like authoritarians. It's why I dislike the EU so much.

At least the US presidents can only serve two terms and I highly doubt the baboon will last the year, so when 2021 rolls around and a new president is installed... what is the point of your comment again?

In case you missed it .... Trump has Washington locked down with heavily armed military personnel who are wearing uniforms that don't identify either the regiment or the wearer. He has also built a third barrier (not paid for by the Mexicans) around the White House. The skys are being patrolled by helicopters.

He aint going nowhere without a fight.

Some people would rather be right than better off.
As for criticism of the government I think we all have issues with aspects of the handling of the pandemic but some people just wanna go in on absolutely everything.
Like listing deAth rates for 48 hours and when they drop listing it for 72 and then 96, basically anything to make it appear even worse (bear in mind any deaths are awful anyway)

I did that to show the number of deaths in the week run up to state schools opening. To show that the number of deaths were not declining and intended to do it for a five day (school week) period. I stopped when you criticised it (see how sensitive i am ). My next door neighbour is a school secretary and says it's a farce trying to keep the young ones socially distant because its not in their nature. They've never had to do it and didn't do it when they were on lock down with their families at home. The kids are just getting screamed at by the teachers all day or sat playing on iPads/ tablets.

Same answer as before - more votes for parties who were for revoking Brexit or having a second referendum. Fact.

Get Brexit Done.....80 seat majority.

Lib Dem revoke.....decimated.

Labour sat on fence.....worst defeat in generations.

Yep, you won all right Vic.

The process has nothing to do with it (and we've covered this point before as well). What people don't understand is that

1) There will be no labelling of country of origin which means that people will not have a choice whether to purchase it or not. (thats in the agreement)
2) It can be incorporated into foodstuffs that we buy (such as pies / chicken burgers etc) again without us knowing
3) The agreement means that all industrial US food will be allowed in . Genetically modified wheat and Soya together with Hormone treated beef.

All in all it will probably mean no deal with the Eu as they wont allow this stuff into their food chain.
