That’s a ridiculously over simplistic view of things.

Its not.

In desperation to get what they want, remain voters are over thinking it im afraid. One party said they would scrap brexit and got decimated. One party said it would get brexit done and won an 80 seat majority.

Telling yourself that remain actually won is ludicrous and it leads to threads like this and the arguments because no one seems able to just accept a democratic result anymore.

Amazing, how they managed to lose 3 elections and a referendum is baffling.
It's not baffling. It's baffling that you think it's baffling. But you don't really. It's just "we won" to avoid admitting "you were right". It is going to be bad.

The desperation to avoid a second referendum is the clue.

Where have I said “remain actually won”?! I’m just pointing out that there are a number of reasons why the Lib Dems fared so badly at the last election. Putting it solely down to Brexit is indeed incredibly over simplistic.

The Lib Dems ("decimated") increased their vote by 56%. Their commitment to Remain lost Labour the seat, and let in a Tory.

It's just part of their "we won" narrative. The more shit Brexit gets the more they resort to pointing out the shit is democratic shit.

That it’s going to be bad is yet another prediction, judging by past ones, I think I’ll sleep tonight. A second referendum was simply a refusal to accept the result, why not another General Election, add up all the losers and the same daft argument never ends.

Who keeps raising the argument that Leave won?

Having said that, I just watched the advert for exporters to get ready for Jan 1st.

Can you imagine if the Remain campaign had run that as a prediction of where voting Leave would take us? I think Leave might have said nonsense, we will still be in a free trade zone from Iceland to the Russian border.

Lib dems almost ceased to exist after the disastrous coalition, so a 56% increase is not as significant as it sounds - hence they have so few MP's. The fact is that in the referendum, the EU elections and the GE there was a clear remain option and it was rejected each time. No ammount of mental gymnastics can alter that.

So to stop Brexit, all we had to do was vote for a party that almost ceased to exist (and many did, split the Remain vote and delivered a Tory government).

Note to self; he's probably joking or just wumming.

Leave won one referendum and that's it. Leavers pretending that three subsequent elections demonstrate validation of that initial vote by a majority is for the fairies. Remainers using those three election results as proof that we should remain is equally daft. Each vote had their own non-Brexit issues that makes tying them to support for Brexit pointless. For the most recent election, the promise that Brexit would be "done" made a lot of people vote for Johnson and his charlatans because people were sick of it and wanted the issue to go away, not because they were for or against Brexit.

"You knew you would lose your jobs" Andrea Leadsom 2018

"It will take around 50 years to see the benefits" Rees-Mogg 2018

It has already started. They will pin it on the public just like they will pin CoronaVirus. They don't even try to hide it

I wonder if there will be a public backlash from people who voted Brexit. It doesn't seem particularly likely given the discourse over the past 4 years, and so far there doesn't seem to be many voices saying this isn't what I voted for (apart from Farage and the ERG loons). But I wonder if it turns out to be as bad/pointless as Leadsom and Mogg's comments suggest, whether people will admit they were sold a pup.

My own thinking has mellowed somewhat as with all the talk of a deal being in sight, i wonder if it will be remainers who are happier as we'll end up with almost exactly what we have now just costing a bit more and with a sprinkle of red tape thrown in for good measure.

I doubt it. People who have chnaged thier minds have long since accpeted it will be a fuck up so it will not be a shock. Those that still think its a good idea, still think it is a good idea and seemingly are happy to lose thier jobs for 'sovereignty' - the job losses will be atributed to Covid and then will create another 'culture war' and round and round we will go

It's only a small ammount of people that care. If you look at this thread it's the same handful of us cunts on either side of the debate occasionally interrupted by pissed up/pissed off admin while the other 17000 or so registered members can't be arsed. I suspect wider society is much the same.

I think lots of people still really do care, it's just that more or less everything that can be said has been said many times over. One side think it's a massive fuck up, the other side think it's all worth it for whatever reason and those arguments have been going round in circles for years. I don't take people no longer engaging in the debate as them no longer caring. Far from it - I'm still obsessed with Brexit but rarely engage in any debate because a) it's pointless given the fuck sticks we have in charge and b) it's genuinely emotionally draining.

I think you’re right to some extent. If we get a deal that’s only a bit shit and means things don’t change much for most people then it will stay that way. On the other hand if it’s a really shit deal or no deal that makes people noticeably poorer, causes major job losses or makes life generally more difficult there’ll be a huge backlash from people who didn’t see it coming.
The prospect of a deal that puts us in a better position than when we were members is vanishingly small. Even the ultras know that.

Know it? I thought that was their latest USP. Crap deal with the EU so we can do deals with countries that don't have a deal with the EU.
