Another new Brexit thread

FT with border funding scoop... @Cheadle_hulmeBlue from ‘Noddy Land News’ states this is a very positive Brexit development and welcomes the news.

The UK rejects Dover funding bid to double French passport booths via FT - long queues ahead...as other ports also don’t get money they asked for to build #brexit border.

Today we find out what everyone got - but it turns out that 54 ports asked for more than £450m - so a LOT have been bitterly disappointed. Not just Dover...they are furious the government is not willing to fully fund the very borders they mandated.’
 
despite blaming Brexit the truth contained within this article is that the lack of a level playing field here is entirely self inflicted by the UK. The rags academy coach must realise that the Glazers aren't investing enough into the swamp so they are hardly likely to spaff cash on another sister club in the EU.

A genuine Brexit is now pretty much secured and, whilst I might get a bit disappointed if there are a couple concessions on LPF procedures etc. I will just accept that the mission has been accomplished beyond whatever outcome I ever thought possible before January 2020

The Remainers have become increasingly bitter and petty in their denial - just more evidence of the reality of where we are.

Reality is hard sometimes - but some of them should grow a pair and try it

Genuine question which laws would you like control of ?

I think one of the biggest mistakes leavers have made is thinking that leaving the EU will only impact the high earning big city types and that plucky working class northerners will be able to roll up their sleeves and get on with a bit of hardship. Its BS.

I think covid has actually mitigated some of the effects of brexit on the economy.

So now you know what sort of Brexit people who voted leave wanted? Nothing about that on the ballot form, we've been told.

well considering taking back control was one of the main points talked about during the vote and every election we’ve had after - I’d assume that is one of the main reasons people voted

we also had an election where leaving the single market and customs union was one of the main policies

I'm not depressed in the slightest, but then I work for one of the few companies that does most of its business outside Europe and has a big export control office that will look after additional EU red tape along with all the stuff for the rest of the world. I also don't have a second home in the EU that I want to retire to or spend more than 3 months there at any one time. I can also afford the additional costs of living in Brexit Britain and don't mind paying a few more quid for holiday insurance. I'll also get used to not having quite the same choice of groceries but that's no big deal. Fortunately I can also afford to travel to visit my family who will probably emigrate to somewhere where they are more likely to get a decent job. Where I will miss out compared to people like yourself will be that I won't be basking in the glory of taking back control of setting some regulations that cover things that don't affect me in the slightest, and I won't gain much satisfaction from having to eat loads of mackerel because the EU won't be exporting much of the fish I like and we will have a glut of fish that we normally export but will struggle due to logistics problems. I'll leave that to you to enjoy.

If I worked in agriculture, fishing, car manufacturing, food production, logistics and any number of other industries I might be a bit more nervous.
