Ante Coric

He wants a bigger role at his next club or He wants a bigger club or He wants a bigger role at a bigger club? Im sure if it was option 1, Grenada was his next destination, he could play a big role.

Kids are easily spoilt by agents these days and when they see vine merchants go for absurdly idiotic fees and wages, they get swayed!

He sure has talent. Hoepfully he makes the right calls in his career.

I don't see how anyone can fault this decision unless they are completely blinded by blue tinted glasses.

He's currently playing in the Champions League, playing regularly and at his boyhood club.

We wanted to buy him and then farm him off to Grenada, or at the very least couldn't tell him what role he would have.

It would be a ridiculous gamble for any young player to make a move without knowing what they are getting into.

Also - considering Pep has been phoning up all our targets convincing them how great he's going to make them, if it were me I'd be wondering why Guardiola hadn't told me about his plans for my future.

Actually, he would be playing much better attacking football in Granada against world stars, learning modern tactics at the same time. I recall Paco's Rayo coming to Bernabeu last season and literally beating the shit out of Madrid before the corrupted ref had started to show absurd reds left and right. It's incomparable with a very weak Croatian league. 6 CL matches don't change anything. Watch Zagreb and watch Rayo. Night and day.

Understand what your saying and can see the bigger picture of him going to a club like Granada but trying to look at this from Coric's personal perspective. A boy thats played for his club from a young age, now playing CL football, comfortable enough at his current club to stay but confident enough to make a move if a big club wants to sign him. No matter what we think, I dont believe a loan team invests the same amount of time/energy into a player's development, than a team that pays his fee and his wages...There is a danger that these young players get lost in the process and I can see why Coric might have concerns about it. I'm sure he'd jump at the chance to move to City if we were offering him a chance to play in the 1st team squad. Rightly or wrongly, if reports are true, he's not comfortable with a move to Granada and if thats all we offering I cant see this deal getting done.

Worthington was asked, “Considering City’s squad is full, where do you see Ante Ćorić fitting in?” and his answer is said to have been ‘unconvincing’, something along the lines of, “We’ll see, but you can sign.”

At that moment, negotiations lost all meaning for Ćorić’s entourage because Worthington had failed to convince them the Croatia international would play an important role at City. One of City’s plans for the youngster, Večernji List has learned, would have been to loan him to La Liga side Granada, who are coached by Pep Guardiola’s friend, Paco Jémez. Ćorić’s management were unimpressed by the idea of Croatia’s most promising player being farmed out to a team struggling to stay in La Liga.

Ćorić and his advisors are only interested in joining a ‘strong, ambitious club’, which Manchester City could certainly be labelled. However, Gary Worthington’s pitch put Team Ćorić off, and they believe a club such as Porto or Benfica could be better for his development.

thanks for posting! Would love to have been a fly on the wall during those talks. Someone needs to have words with Gary Worthington if this is true!;)

+1

Genuine question...Is it normal for Gary Worthington to meet with player reps and not Txiki? just asking as havent seen Gary Worthington's name mentioned much this transfer window.

Just read this report again! That would be a kick in the teeth...if he signed for Porto/Benfica and started in their squad, then they added a 40mil release clause!;) If the 18mil euro offer is true, clearly we rate him highly. Could this just be a numbers thing? Doesnt want to go out on loan but we Stuck with a number of players and no spaces to offer?

Paco Jemez is not some random ignorant moron, he is a football enthusiast and Pep's mate after all. I would send half of City's youth prospects there with no doubt)

You clearly think very highly of Granada and Jemez and I dont know enough about either to question your opinion mate! I just believe we need to look at all the factors and can understand why he wouldnt want to agree to that loan deal.

Nobody is saying what Coric is doing is right nor finding faults with him! Its absolutely normal for a player to move from a CL playing croatian club/mongolian club/ukrainian club/etc to a club in La Liga not playing CL. The football test and experience is immensely higher, week after week, ignoring the 6 CL matches. Not sure why some idiots dont get this here.

And on Paco, as Andrew says, the guy plays futuristic football, normally that Pep plays with the elite clubs & players. And is a proper "coach" who makes players better. Wont be surprised if he ends up coaching Barca or BvB or the likes one day!

Shame if it doesn't get done but he may kick himself in the future. Him committing to Granada and being coached by Paco for a year would have given him some brownie points with Pep.

Paco is a fantastic coach and would certainly prepare the lad to come into the first team next season.
