AntiVirus.net removal

Can't post a new topic, but here goes. Does anyone know how to get rid of one of those fake malware/antivirus programs called Best Malware Protection?

My work colleague was watching a footy stream last nite on works pc and he has panicked when this fake program popped up pretending to have found threats on the pc so he clicked remove button or whatever. Hence now our works pc is now goose'd!

I've sat there for my full 8hr shift trying allsorts. System restore and from safemode, system restore with networking the same. Malwarebytes finds allsorts which is probably connected to it, the program itself doesn't go and then the same stuff appears on malwarebytes again (all to do with Registry from what I remember). Its disabled AVG so can't do anything with that. Spy-bot finds it but won't remove it. I've run all these programs in safe mode too. No joy.

Ended up phoning IT and they couldn't remove it remotely so are now coming for it tomorrow. Its gonna cost a bomb cos they said they're gonna have to reformat it. (Their words were "re-build it" and the look of horror on the Managers face, she must've been imagining a little man with magnifying specs on, a pair of tweezers in his hand, taking out all the components and replacing them!)

I have a couple of hours or so when I get in, in the morning, to save my colleague from a lot of shit. Oh, and me too, cos this could mean no skiving on the internet for me now, so no Bluemoon to keep me entertained when I get bored silly! lol

Any help much appreciated. Thanks.

I'll try the above link when I go back in work tomorrow, see if that helps.

Sometimes those programs called Combofix and SDFix can remove rogue files , when run from safe mode , they've both helped me out on occasion ......

the paid version of Superantispyware might be worth trying , you can probably get it on the 30 day trial version , and it's usually pretty good ....... i've found that it picks up more than malwarebytes , despite reports to the contrary ..... try running that , if you can access the internet to download it ... you can always uninstall it after the trial period.

Like wise with trial versions of kaspersky , Nod 32 , Webroot etc ..... they all all pretty effective programs.

Thanks for your advice. Will try them out tomorrow. Don't think I can use the Combofix though, because I'm sure I read on one of these threads I'd have to uninstall AVG because it won't work, and with it being a works pc it is licensed.

-- Thu Mar 17, 2011 9:38 am --

Managed to get rid of it as soon as I got in work this morning after spending 8hrs on it yesterday!! LOL.

Not 100% sure how I managed it either tbh? I did go on the task manager, and under processes found what I was hoping to be the Best Malware Protection and ended the process. I was then doing pretty much the same as I did yesterday. Spy-bot box kept showing a registry change just like it did yesterday which I could either click "accept" or "deny" so I just kept on clicking deny quickly (didn't have a clue what I was doing) and then AVG suddenly started working again and found threats. I thought it best to un-install spy bot, as I didn't think our IT department would be impressed with me downloading it, and after I did this thats when I noticed it had gone!

So my work colleague owes me big time on this one. I haven't texted him to let him know. Let him stew! He didn't text me back last night when I told him I had posted on ere, and was also looking for advice on internet in my own time!

Apparently it would've cost £200-£300 for the IT company just to come and take the pc away and thats without doing anything!
