Hi Guys,

I had to give up field archery due to a knackered shoulder/rotator cuff, so took up air rifles. I enjoy it, but it is difficult finding places to shoot down here.

I have an Air Arms S400F and a Kral Puncher Maxi, both in .177 - anyone else here shoot air guns? Where and what?

I have a ‘Benjamin Vaporizer’ in the .22 caliber.
The name says it all, it’s a beast, definitely not for plinking in the back yard, still very accurate at a hundred yards and deadly on ground squirrels and grouse/ pheasant

Say I wanted to buy an air rifle for letting loose at cans in the woods how much would it cost me to buy one? I wouldn't be shooting squirrels or such like. I got shot in the arse bone by a .22 pistol when I was a teenager so have avoided them for decades.

If you’re talking about woods that are open to the general public it is a none starter. You will also struggle to find someone who will allow it to be done on their private land. Read the rules as to where you can shoot and what you can legally buy before committing.

Some memories reading the title of this thread. Manchester Air Guns in failsworth. Long gone now. Gat gun with little pellets and feathered darts.

I bought a Webley Tempest early 90s. That was fun to shoot your mates with after a few beers.

Mithered my Mum to buy me an air rifle (Relum .22) and a Crossbow from the catalogue in the early 1970s. All my mates had similar. Pigeons, squirrels and rats didn’t stand a chance.

Used have a Pea gun made out of 2 by 1 and strong elastic band firing dried peas ! You may laugh but you didn’t want to get your arse in the way of that within 20ft

Got into air rifle target shooting as a kid in scouts in the 90s - bet they’re not allowed now!

Got a .177 rifle for my birthday and a membership to a local air rifle range, was at a mill where the big Tesco in Failsworth is now. Brilliant fun.

the yanks are obviously a bit too far on the trigger happy side but there’s a lot to be said for teaching kids how to use a firearm at a young age in a controlled and disciplined environment. Teaches responsibility and controlled fun.

Would love to have another go now, and if I ever find myself in America I’d love to go to a proper shooting range and try the real thing.

It was on the elevated bit just before the Royal Oak. Was there for years and years. Think it’s (another) take away now.
It was on the same premises as Rowbothams Cycle shop at Failsworth Pole. You had to in via the cycle shop door then past the counter to the left to a back annexe.
Both cycle shop & airgun shop now long gone

Yes. Great days when you had proper shops. I’d forgotten about the cycle shop.

I recently showed er indoors how to shoot a pistol, she’s not into guns at all but definitely a good thing to learn…. Just in case

Fond memories of that bike shop and the air gun shop.

Is Gerry Shields bike shop still going down the road?
