Any car mechanics out there? Help needed

Water/ Shite/ Diesel in fuel- filling fuel filter.

What happens is the water is staying in the filter and each time you start it enough fuel rises to the top to start the car, then as more fuel is drawn it's mixed with the water in the filter and not enough fuel gets into carburettor/ injectors.

There's 2 types of fuel filter, I checked online and yours should look like this:

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.vwsonline.co.uk/car_parts_bristol/vw/sharan/sharan7m8/filtersbelts/1h0-201-511-a-tq.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.vwsonline.co.uk/car_parts_br ... -a-tq.html</a>

Unfortunately this one is not transparent so you can't see into it. check which side is in and out then Take it off both sides, should be a jubilee clip type arrangement and empty the filter. Blow it out if you can, will probably only be able to be blown one way, backwards.

Stick it back on noting the orientation of the filter that you checked in the beginning. Note that when you try to start up it will take possibly 20 secs to draw the fuel.

This will not cost you anything to do so I recommend that you do it anyway. If it works then you want to find out how you got crap in the fuel (prob rainwater leaking into tank at garage). Also if it works and you've sorted out the problem it's probably time for a new fuel filter. Check the mounting- pipes in and out horizontal versus vertical against what it should be as mounting at wrong angle can cause fuel filter to fill with water anyway.

I'm by no means a mechanic but to rule out a problem with your immobiliser you need to leave the car with the ignition turned on so that only the lights on the dashboard are all lit up. Leave this for 15 minutes and the computer resets itself. I had this problem with my audi, and called the AA out. As vw/audi are basically the same it should work for your car too. Now im not saying that this is your problem but it would rule out whether its an immobiliser issue.
