great day that.except the final score.we took an early lead and for about 15 mins looked the dogs bollox on a boxing day fixture, with at least 12 000 blues at the victoria ground,we had all behind one goal and the wholeof the stand facing their main stand.it was mental, fancy dress and inflatables of all sorts.smiles all round and belting the songs out.
we lost 3-1.
happy days.
memories yes,, we went on the train and the police rounded up all those with no tickets and locked us in a pen near the train station, id say about 700 of us, the policed decided we were more of a threat being let loose in the town so they let us in the side part of the ground for nothing

brilliant! The victoria ground could be more than a bit dodgy in those days, altho he worst violence i saw was of course the end of season relegation match when we both went down, simmering hostile atmosphere before, during and after the game...saw quite a few blues get hit on the head by bricks thrown at us in the coach park behind the away end.no one seriously hurt and everyone pissed up.it was bedlam, lol

Its worth looking at you tube footage of the match mate.its pretty good.
you can feel the evil atmosphere in the ground as soon as the footage starts..turn the sound up ( the atmosphere is on a par with barnsley v City inaround 82, cup match, evening kick off, all the miners on half day,... andEeverton v City quarter final fa cup at goodison,David Colemans famous quote" its bedlam on the pitch, and bedlam all round the ground")

Back to stoke 98. if you get the right u tube video u can clearly see a group of blues in the stand opp.their main stand, standing their ground and refusing to move ,as the locals carry out waves of attacks, the Blues give as good as they get, and quite clearly dont give a fuck..would love to know who they were...
edit. think the stoke video must be part of the clubs own security footage.god knows how it ended up online, but interesting stuff all the same.
i was pissed out me head on the day and didnt have a clue how nauty it was at the time...untl the bricks started flying after we both got relegated..i recall sobering up pretty soon then, esp when a bloke 5 yards away from me went down with a brick to his head..said brick had travelled over my head to reach him. absolute bedlam at that point.

I thought of that game as I sat in the West Stand on Saturday - the same stand I sat in in '98 - and thought just how much football, and the fortunes of both clubs, had changed since that day 18 years ago.

Its funny, for years i actually thought that match was played at the victoria ground(used to drink quite a lot of strongbow in those days,it helped watching the Blues, lol) its only after watching the footage , and retracing my steps and recalling the location of the coach park bricking that i realized it was their new ground!

First time we'd played there iirc.

I was a bit shocked how the Joke fans were booing him, jesus, did he kill somebody ? he's just a kid and what did he ever do to the Joke fans ?

Yeah he was crap at the euros but is everybody booing Rooney for being shite ?

Id love to see (at our next away game) City fans continually chanting his name, show the lad loads of support (instead of Yaya - yaya Toure)

On another note (pardon the pun) loved the Pep song :D

That really was a crazy day. I remember it was my turn to drive - 4 of us plus my mates young lad - and I had just got my company car the day before (a BM 328 - beautiful it was, made even more beautiful with a city sticker on the back windscreen). Anyway parked just off the big roundabout near the old Victoria Ground. Loads of rumptions in the ground, and after the match kicking off everywhere. Got back to the car and random groups of Stokies kicking the shite out of any car which was noticeably a blues car - Imremember a a lovely Audi getting all its panels kicked in. Well you can imagine me thinking, shit the sticker in the back. Anyway, I stood there with my hand over the sticker whilst loads of lads streamed past looking for City cars. Got away with it but still to this day don't know how.

We should just pick a random opposition player and boo them throughout the game.

Don't boo them. Do something weird. Like "Ooo" them.

Edit: don't do that. It'll sound like monkey noises and we'll be banned/fined etc. maybe a "Moo" is safe?

We should have a song, ''Boo boo wherever you may be, brainwashed slaves of the media you see,it could be worse you may be right...on second thoughts you support fucking shite!'' Or something similar.

I was right next to the divide between the home and away fans at Stoke one year and when they sang "WWYWYWS" that I shouted:

"When we were shit
When we were shit
We got more than you get now
We got more than you get now"
(To the same tune)

And I got a few looks as if to say "shit, oh yeah"...thick fuckers
Because this happened.
